In the movie "Bulletproof Monk" there is a scene where two woman are in a museum. One shows a picture to the other. It show two men in a war scene. One laying on his back looking helpless, and the other leaning over him with a rifle pointed at him.

"Tell me," she said "Deep down in the bottom of you heart, who would you rather be, the one about to be shot, or the one about to do the shooting.?"

I was just wondering everyone's opinion on this.

Well, in all honesty, I would rather be the one about to do the shooting. Not because I want to shoot a person or because I don't want to die. But because then I have the choice of whether to shoot this person or not. It all boils down to choices. The man on the ground has no choice in the matter; his life is dependent upon the choices of another human being, and that is just scary.

Now, if you told me that if I was the man with the rifle, I HAD to shoot the man on the ground, I don't know which I would choose. That takes away the "choice" option.  Apparently, we are in a war and that's the kind of thing that happens during a war and I have probably killed many others, just maybe not so close and in such a personal way.

So, yes, my answer is wishy-washy, but I really don't believe that people can just choose which person they would rather be in a specific situation without living it

Oh.... Um.... I honestly don't know... I don't know why, but I'd want to do both.

The shooting first probably. I'd like to have the choice of wether to shoot or not. (Which I probably would'nt) I'd probably do it though, if he was somebody who killed my family or something to do with getting revenge.

Then I'd like to be the one shot. What facinates me the most is what happens after death. Do you go to heaven? Are you reborn in to another human? Or an animal? Or do you simply lie there forgotton in darkness? It's a scary thought, I know, but I guess we'll all have to wait.

Unless someone has been regressed here.

(That's when you remember your past life, in case you didn't know. but you don't get hypnotized or anything. You're awake and aware of everything your seeing. It's cool, but can be very upsetting, like when you remember being killed.)

My friends don't believe all this, but they never heard this. (I listened to it on the radio) I don't think people cry their souls out for entertainment on upsetting matters such as World War II, etc.

Oh, listen to me! I'm blabbering on and on! well, you heard my oppinion. Don't hate me if you disagree!!!

The one to be shot. I don't know why, either. It came to me first when reading the post and I can never imagine even holding a gun. I am guessing it's my fear of the power guns have and what I might do without thinking if I had one, yanno? Cause looking at the symbolic side - I'm not ever letting other people make my decisions or anything, so if this is a symbolic question most likley the answer wouldn't fit for me - it's just my fear of having a weapon.

"It's easy to die for a cause. But a lot harder to live for one."

I think if I turned out being the one doing the shooting, i'd be thinking about it for the rest of my life, and wanting to die myself, so I think i'd rather be the one about to be shot.

No question for me...and this probably won't surprise anyone here- the one doing the shooting. If I'm in that situation, it's probably not because I was the one who turned the argument deadly. If I did, there had to be some EXTREMELY strong provocation. So then I'd be provoked and most likely in that situation because the other put me there- so go cry me a river if you don't want to die.
But then we look at legal questions- if I could be caught, then I might not shoot. I'd take the assault charge. I couldn't claim self-defense if I shoot the guy while he's in submission. But then criminal statistics are on my side with getting away with it- so that guy is so dead.
