Ok, I turned on my comp and I got this message saying I was low on disk space and would I like to clean some up - I clicked yes and snooped around... it's been recording EVERY site I visit! EVERY PAGE of this board that I've looked at, EVERYTHING!

Is this normal? Or is this spyware? How do I stop it from doing that?

What you were probably seeing were your cookies, records that your computer keeps of every website that each user on the computer visits. They are perfectly normal but if you fear that you have spyware, I recomend getting ad-aware. It detects and deletes all spyware.

Interesting, it may be a couple of things.

#1, cookies, or internet files

#2, settings in your browser that saves all the url's and makes them available off line.

It is probably not spy ware...spare ware is small programs, hidden in the background, observing what you look at and such...these programs are small...under a few Megs. What you are probably suffering from is a virus, or just too many Internet files. I suggest deleting all your internet files, clear your history(add your favorites first). Then start looking through your comp for programs you don't use. And unistalling them.

I have never got to a stage where i have run out of space, but running out could really suck.

When I look into your eyes
I can see a love restrained
But darlin' when I hold you
Don't you know I feel the same

'Cause nothin' lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it's hard to hold a candle
In the cold November rain

Ad-aware is wonderful- I had my computer no more than 6 mo. it found 265 spy-ware and tracking cookies on my drive, and every week it finds at least ten more. If it's internet cookies, and you run IE, go to Tools, Internet Options, and click Delete files. You can also try (If you run Windows) Accessories, System tools, Disk cleanup, followed by disk defragmentor. That shoudl give you some space. My biggest problem with space before I got this machine was mp3's- if you're not careful you can take up WAY too much space with them, especially on an older machine. Hope some of this helps- I know people have mentioned cookies before, but get rid of them, then clean up your drive- if you've never done it before it might take a while but it should help- and good luck!

It doesn't seem to be my cookies. It records these exactly as it is. If I go and browse ebay every picture I look at is there, my emails... everything. I'm deleting them as I go now, but I'm going to need to go out and buy a better AV system Monday I think.

I hope it's not pricey.

I think you've met your Temporary Internet Files folder.

When you browse onto a webpage, your computer stores a whole lotta stuff from it, ie the pictures. Then your browser can see it properly. This clears itself periodically but if you go on a lot of webpages in a short time, it will pile up.

Just empty it yourself now and empty the recycle bin too. Delete some unused programs too.

I recently bought another Hard Drive and chucked it in there and all of my useless crap - ie games and mp3s - goes on there and on the original one is all of the programs etc.

This is the end, Beautiful friend
This is the end, Beautiful friend
This is the end, My only friend, the end
It hurts to set you free
But you'll never follow me

The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die
This is the end

Nar, it might be the offline browsing (as mentioned above), but it might be something else. Have you installed any Internet Speed Boosters? These let you bring up web pages that you've already seen by saving ALL web pages to your hard drive, then bringing them up again when you call their link. Usually, the software goes and checks the revision date of the live page first, then if it hasn't changed, it brings up the one from your disk. If it has changed, it pulls it from live and saves a new copy on your disk.
