I think they are called boot leg. Well, what is the going rate for one of those? I was talking to a friend, and apparently she know's someone who gets them and then sells them for 8-10 bucks, American, apeice. I'm betting he's making a profit, so what do you think the going rate is?
And yes, I obviously know it's illeagal since I said Illeagal in the title lmao...
Well, I have no clue about stuff like this, but it would probably depend on the quality of the bootleg and the demand for it. Also, I am curious about the meaning of the term "bootleg." I have heard of people getting bootlegged copies of movies that were videotaped from inside of a theater that was playing the movie and I have heard of getting bootlegged copies of movies directly from the production company from someone who worked there and stole it. I think that would also make a difference.
Oh, and, one of my friends used to date a guy whose dad owned a video rental store and they got the movies a couple months before they were actually released. We would watch them and about every 5-10 minutes, a scroll would come across the bottom of the screen saying something like, "If you have paid to rent or view this video, please contact the production company immediately." I don't remember exactly. It was pretty annoying.

Well, to me that really isn't worth the risk. A dvd rom alone to burn up north, is going at a rate of about 5 bucks a disk, and that is in bulk. Next, you have to have a DVD rom(60bucks) and a DVD-Burner(350bucks), so for the first dvd burning the cost would be about 450 after taxes(not to mention the machine you would need to do it on). Thus you would have to burn about 300 dvds to break even. And then you want to make a profit off of it? So 300 more dvds. You have to take into account of hydro, time, and wear and tear on hardware. Not to mention that it is "illegal". In the end, it is definitly not worth it, such idiots. I could see bootleg'in off of the internet, but making "hard copies" is just not logical.
I prefer to wait for 'used' copies of dvds and buy em up cheap from rental places.

Mate, I doubt very much whether the majority of these pirate DVD's were even produced in America.
You'll probably find that they were made in countries like Cambodia, Thailand and Singapore, then sourced by the people selling them in your country. Shipped over in huge quantities and then dispersed to their agents.
[It sounds very cloak and dagger but its true]
The illegal film industry is almost as comlpicated and well organised as the drug market in these asian countries, and unfortunately for some, it is a way of life.

I had gotten a couple boot legs. They are about 8 dollars and the quality is different in any tape. I also have bought the movies agian though, for full price when they were officially released b/c in most bootlegs, people standing up block some scenes, they are blurry or teh tape in the camera must be switched and scenes are missing. As for the business of making your own, I wouldn't, buying is one thing, not illegal, You didnt make them. But making and selling is. People get caught faster than they can get enough money to pay for the equipment they had to buy to get their "business" running

Actually, it's illegal to buy, make or sell infringing copies of any movie that displays the disclaimer at the beginning of the film.
I think your allowed to make a back-up copy for personal use, but it's only allowed to be shown in your home by the person who bought it. But I'm not 100%. It's all very sketchy.

I don't know where Locke is getting his DVD-R from, but you can usually find a 10 pack at walmart for $12 US. I have a friend at a video store- he copies the DVD's as soon as they come into the store and sells them on campus for about $10- he makes really good profit doing that. The internet copies are usually really poor- bad sound and visual, and worse if anyone is near you or in the view.
