ah yes, it is time again for the super bowl, the best single-game event the whole year round. A time where we all can stuff our faces for 8 straight hours on wings, nachos, and other various foods with no nutritional value.
So, whats' your pick.
I'm going with the patriots, because they're my team (I'm from massachusetts)and because they've won 14 in a row and Tom brady is pretty much incapable of losing. The Panthers pretty much need to get ovet the fact that they're going to lose 300 to zero.
the only thing that worries me is that the panthers look a lot like we did in 2001, and we all know how that worked out.
but whatever, the patriots WILL win...
daylight will come and delhomme will go home a big freaking loser!

this is the one football game i actually watch (only for the commercials.) i just don't enjoy football, i find it very tedious to watch. well, i find most sports to tedious to watch (except hockey.) i am just too much of a girl, i guess!

Well, I'm not a girl, but I don't watch it for the game either. It's all about the commercials, baby! The commercials have been making the daily news stories for weeks now. And, of course, going over to a friend's house for all of the eats and company.
I, too, find most spectator sports boring. I just don't get why people get so excited about someone ELSE'S accomplishments - especially when you don't know the person or have any real connection to them. Sure, if your high school or college team is playing. Sure, if you or a family member or a friend are playing.
Anyway, that's my rant of the day (sure to be repeated several times thru out my day, I'm sure).

Go Houston Go Houston! Yay! I love living here! So many celebrity sitings, they had to close down the Galleria. Fine Arts people from my high school (Spring Woods) get to be in the half time show as the screaming fans! Awesome! Everbody's getting so excited and of course, I watch the Super Bowl for the commercials, nothing can beat that commercial last year with that zebra acting as a ref in the Budweiser commerical. lol. ::sigh:: this weekend has been so much fun.
On a side note, had a soccer game yesterday, WE WON! Yay! 4-0 baby! Go Tigers!

I hate football. I don't know why, but I do. If and when I ever do watch it I watch the commercials. But being from the same state as the Patriots I feel obligated to root for my state.
But I'm watching a marathon on TNT right now. 10 hours of the show Charmed. Can't beat that if you're a fan!
I'm not really a fan of either of the teams, but I was for the Panthers. Only because the Patriots beat my Rams in a past superbowl and I still haven't gotten over it

Football is my religion and my life...so I have a strong opinion about it. As it's the morning after, I'm pissed off. I wanted Carolina to win...not because I love their team (although I do own quite a bit of Carolina Panthers things, such as a coat, mascot doll, etc.), but because I HATE the Patriots. I've hated them since I lived in Boston for a while. I find Mass. fans to be horribly delusional, so I can't stand their teams due to this (any Mass. fan want to challenge me? Two words for you- Red Sox).
So I was pissed last night when they scored with 4 seconds left. Oh well.
As for Commercials- I have to vote for Budweiser winning, although Pepsi came in a close second.

Saddely enough I didn't get to see any of the commercials. Oh well, I'm sure I'll see them on TV eventually.
Even though I don't care for football (or really any sport for that matter) I'd still cheer for my teams since it is our team and what not. Of course I can't argue that they all suck. I don't know jack about most sports and I know most, if not all of our teams suck. Oh well.
Omg you should have seen the stores yesterday before the game, not one parking spot anywhere. People dressed in blue, silver and black. My school even had a panther day. The panthers play here in charlotte you know, so it was like a big deal. And when they lost I was so excited, but everyone else was like " I don't want to talk about it"

I must be a strange girl. I love football. In high school, I was the statitician for my high school football team and everyone thought it was weird that I knew the rules of football and understood what was going on on the field. I guess that's what happens when there are no boys in your family and your father wants someone to talk about sports, hunting, and fishing with.
But, anyway, because my team (the Lions) aren't exactly the Super Bowl type of team, I always have weird ways of picking who I'm going to cheer for in the Super Bowl. This year, the winner was the Patriots. It was an easy choice.
Tom Brady - he played for the University of Michigan. I watched him then and I'll root for him now
Sorry, Carolina fans, please don't get upset about this because this is just my opinion - I don't think that teal is a football-ish color.
So, I was happy that the Patriots won, although, I was a little nervous at the end.
Loved the commercials though!

Amanda, I totally agree with you about men playing football and wearing teal. The only sport I enjoy is Hockey and I despise teams that have purple, teal or any other sissy color in their uniforms. Also, my husband is from Michigan, so he too, is a Lions fan. If I happen to be with my hubby while he has a football game on, or if it's the Superbowl (the only time I really ever watch a game anyway) I pick the team with the best looking uniform to root for! What can I say. It is important to be fashion conscience even while playing sports.

First off: "I would be supporting the Panthers but Patriots have won b4. I think ill support the Panthers."
Does anyone else read it like he/she wants to support the Patriots since they've won before, but then after saying that said they'd support the Panthers? I may be too over tired to comprehend but I see it as "I support the Patriots even though I like the other guys more. Hey I support the Panthers" LMAO!
Anyway, yeah, hockey is one of the only sports I really enjoy watching. I'm not exactly familure with the rules, teams, and players, but I do love to watch it anyway!
Amanda, first- it's not strange that you like football. I could recite the rules of the game when I was five. Football is my life and everyone who has ever met me not only knows it, but doesn't think it's strange that I'm female and love it.
Second, for someone who claims to know so much about football, you sure don't know anything about their colors. The Jacksonville Jaguars wear teal as a color...and I believe I've used the phrase "teal is not a football color" about 18 times on this board because I hate the Jaguars since the 1997 AFC Championship game. Carolina wears a light blue and black...but it is NOT teal.

As another side mention- it's strange that you claim to be a Detriot fan without realizing that the blue color Carolina uses is the exact same blue the Lions use.

First, sorry, as I said above, I didn't mean to offend anyone by my statement about the colors.
Second, I never claimed to be an expert on the colors of different teams. I said I knew stuff about football, such as plays and stuff, I didn't say I was an expert on each NFL team.
Third, maybe it was the tv I was watching, maybe it was something else. Those little stripes on the Panthers uniforms looked teal to me. This pic I took from their online store still looks teal to me.
But, anyway, as I said before, sorry you were offended by my statement. I'm still glad that the Patriots won. And I still don't like the Panthers uniforms.

Wow, Helen you are serious about the football thing aren't you?? So, who do you root for and what got you so into football at such a young age? We had a girl on our Junior Varsity team while I was in H.S. She was the kicker. But I think she was there for more political reasons than an acutal love for the game. She wasn't very good and the guys hated her being on the team because she wasn't there for the right reasons. Now, we also had a girl on our varsity Hockey team (which isn't as unusual as a girl on the football team) and she was a really good player. So the guys just accepted her as "one of the guys!"
My H.S. colors were "scarlet and grey." They had to try and be fancy with that. It couldn't just be "red and grey."
What about everyone else? H.S. colors and mascots? We were the "Fighting Irish" just like Notre Dame. We even had that same fight song music, just changed the lyrics a bit. It was a Catholic H.S. so I think they were trying to emulate a Catholic College, I don't know.

At my high school, Bristol Plymouth Reginal-Technical School (trade school that took 5 towns), had blue and white. Our school symbol was the Craftsman. Way to get creative for a technical school, huh? We didn't exactly have a maskot. I mean what could you really do for a costume other then one of those yellow construction helmets and a tool belt?
My high school colors were navy blue and maize and we were the "Hatchets." Yeah, kind of a weird mascot, but the name of our town is Bad Axe, so someone must have thought it would be cool if our mascot was a Hatchet.

LOL! Yeah, they own the Pontiac/Buick dealership right in town. It's a pretty small town and, not to be cliche, but pretty much everyone knows just about everyone!
My grandparents are actually pretty good friends with Flannerys, so that's pretty cool! What a small world

My school colors are green and white, that sounds really boring compared to everyone else's fancy colors. My mascot is the spartans, and the pictures around my school of my mascot are the ugliest thing I've ever seen.

Man, I'm getting into this late. One- Helen and I were cheering for the Broncos since we were four, not five...god knows how I remember that. In High School, we were friends with Katie Kneita (I actually never learned how to spell her last name) who became the first female to kick a field goal in Division 1 College history, so we have some connections to college football. But one thing really bothering me is Amanda's comment she claimed as her own 'sorry Panthers, but teal is not a football color.' The only reason that bothers me to no end is because Helen and I went to the 1998 Jaguars vs. Broncos game (where Elam kicked the field goal that tied the record for distance of 63 yards, go Broncs) and it was there that Helen made her claim to fame by yelling 'TEAL IS NOT A FOOTBALL COLOR!' at these Jag fans as they were whining about the loss to the Bronocos at the end and one made a dumb comment about our team having ugly uniforms. At that point the comment spread across Mile High Stadium and fans were yelling it at the Jag fans as they left. So for such an occasion, I hate to see it being credit to some one else.

Credit for what Marisol? Surely you don't think that because of one incident back 98 or when ever it was, that the entire population knows about Helen saying that? How would Amanda ever know about it to take credit for it? I have been saying that about sports teams for longer than that. So does that mean that Helen took credit for my comments?

Sev, maybe you should look a bit back onto the history of the board. Every time we talked about Football, I ALWAYS made the comment "teal is not a football color" referring to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Believe me, there is a real big chance Amanda saw that at least a few times if she really was into football and on this board at the same time. Gee, but I guess you're right- it was all just a big coincidence.
And yes, we rooted for the Broncos.
And yes, I see that graphic, Amanda- amazing how absolutely exactly it matches the Detroit Lion's color. So if that's teal and a reason not to like a football team- what's up with you liking the Lions?

I don't know why we're still discussing this, but I still agree with everything I said in the beginning and am going to keep defending myself.
Sev, thanks for sticking up for me.
Helen, I never knew that you had ever said that before. Yes, in my mind, I know that probably thousands of people in the world have said that statement sometime in their lives, but I was never informed that you held the copyright for it, nor have I paid attention to it on this board. It was just my opinion, so I typed it. Next time I hear anyone say that teal is not a football color, I will inform them that you hold the copyright for that statement and they best not be saying it anymore.
If the color in the Panthers jerseys is, in fact, the exact same shade of blue as that in the Lions jerseys, well, then I guess that's not a reason to not want the Panthers to win. I'll change it to that I don't like their uniforms, because I don't. But seriously, when I was watching the game on Sunday, their jerseys LOOKED teal to me and not at all the same color as the Lions jerseys. I was also in a room full of people who also thought that the jerseys looked teal.
To me, the colors still don't look the same, but I never said I was an expert on colors. They might be the same, but they don't look it to me.

I am just callin 'em like I see 'em, Helen. I don't wanna get involved in this little spat about football with you and Amanda. You seem to take football way too seriously anyway. Marisol's comment just came across as "everyone should know Helen said this first." Even if you did say if "first and at least 18 times" does that mean no body else can say it too? She made an innocent comment about team colors and all of a sudden she is being read the riot act. Yeah, I do think it is all "just coincidence" that she said it, what is the big deal?

I'm not going to say who I think is right, or who I think is wrong. Lets just pretend I dope slapped everyone on this thread and left the room before anyone could hit me back...
Man, lol, talk about your color fights. I've gotten a lot more into football now since Houston got the Texans and the Superbowl came. Plus, my brother is in the HS team. At my high school, we have kick ass colors. Black and gold. They look so cool on the jackets, I can't wait to get mine! We're the Tigers, which if I must say is one of the better mascots around here. 0.o I have a soccer game tomorrow against the second toughest team in the school district. It's going to be cold and rainy..Yay...Wish me luck! Go #21! Hehehe. I also have solo and ensemmble after the game for choir. Aya, so many things to do so little time...and sleep...

Sev, if you don't want to get involved, then don't get involved. But if you're going to make comments like you're doing- then you're involved and you have to live with getting into the fight. If you don't want that, then get out. If you do want it, then join in- I don't care.
It's easy to say they're different when you search the internet for appropriate pictures. That panther's color lining their name, however, is not the same color of their jersey. I own Carolina jackets and jerseys...and I also own a Detroit football helmet. They're in my carrell in the law library...they're the same.
