Woo-hoo! In the most eagerly anticipated TV-to-film animated adaptation since "Itchy and Scratchy: The Movie," "The Simpsons" are heading to the big screen, reports Variety. Details are still, er, sketchy, with no info on when Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, little Maggie, and the rest of Springfield's colorful population will make their celluloid debut or what the storyline will involve.
D'oh!
"This is our idea of how to whip up enthusiasm for an idea that hasn't been formed yet," "Simpsons" overlord James L. Brooks deadpanned in a statement.
"We've got a very good and interesting idea, and it's different from the show," Mike Reiss, a writer for the long-running Fox series, dished to DVDFanatic.com. "You know, it's like the 'South Park' movie where it's just a bigger, longer, amplified version of the show."
While Homer might believe that "trying is the first step towards failure," we have high hopes for the project, which a Fox exec cautions is still "in the very early stages" of development. Variety says creator Matt Groening is involved, as are veteran scribes George Meyer, Al Jean, David Mirkin, and Mike Scully.
Don't worry if you miss the movie when it comes out. We figure "The Simpsons: The Movie: The Novel" by Norman Mailer (who also penned the "Itchy and Scratchy" novelization) won't be far behind.
And Springfield's dysfunctional denizens aren't the only ones eyeing a movie makeover. With just two episodes of "Sex and the City" left, rumors are a-flying that Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda could be strutting their Manolos into feature-length territory.
"A 'Sex' movie is in the works," an insider tells the New York Post. "Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon will all be in it."
No word from HBO on a cinematic "Sex," but when Parker was recently grilled by Access Hollywood about rumors of a planned reunion, she broke into a smile and coyly answered, "I think there is a possibility of some kind of something."

I saw a mastercard commercial last night being sponsered by the simpsons. It, along with the movie has come to make me believe that the show will be cancelled. I'm sure they will have re-runs, but I can't see this show running much longer, it was for the previous generation.

Show won't be cancelled. Groening signed a contract through next year and stated that he wants to keep the show alive. The show is so wildly popular that it will only be cancelled on Groening's will, not by Fox's.
And Groening said that he WANTED to make a movie. He's never denied that a movie was to come along. He's been planning this for years now.
And as long as they keep the same writers, I CAN'T WAIT for the movie. I only watch 3 shows a day- the 5 o'clock Simpsons, the 6 o'clock Simpsons, and the 10 o'clock Simpsons. I've never missed one episode. I would LOVE to see a 2 hour show. Think South Park, like the article stated. I love the show South Park, but don't have cable to watch it. The movie was better than any one show. I would think that with the same writers and more pressure, a Simpsons movie would be better than any one show. That being said, I'm waiting outside the box office for tickets now...

Anyway I can't see the Simpsons stopping. It's one of the most popular programs still being made in America and it makes everyone money. Why stop it when it makes you money?
I liked the South Park film, it was like one massive episode.
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
- Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven

Groening made a joke that he would cancel after this season...which led to a HUGE media blitz and fans nearly begging him never to stop. He commented that it was a joke and he had no intention of stopping soon. He'll never run out of writers with original ideas. He attracts the best of the best ever to his program. The only problem is if people like Yeardly Smith, Nancy Carthright, Harry Shearer, or Hank Azaria start quiting since they are the main character voice actors.
Simpsons are probably the most popular American show of all time since they are broadcasted everywhere in the world and loved everywhere in the world. As I said, the show won't stop until Groening himself cuts it.

I LOVE the Simpsons! Its my favorite show, and I don't know what I'll do if they cancel it. And if they did do a film, I'm going to see it. If it sucks, it sucks. If it doesn't...... then...... it doesn't suck!
"There are two of them? Well Ali, there is one of me... deleeeted. Deleted?! WHAT?! What happened? Undeleted! Undeleted! I didn't mean to do that! Come back Ali! Come back Ali's sister! You mean too much to me!" Strong Bad

If the Simpson's movie is half as good as the South Park movie, it will be one of the best animated films ever.

I just don't see any way this could suck. Groening has had his best writers on this project for years, not knowing when he was going to get the final go-ahead to do the actual film. With the best writers of their class coming from Ivy League schools, plus the best comedians working on it, they would actually need to put a lot of effort into failing.

Knowing my luck, my dad will rip up my ticket and forbid me from the seeing that movie forever, all so I could be Chief Justice Of The Supreme Court... or a lousy stripper.
