In my area we have a chain of resteraunts, like McDonald's and Burger King, called Wendy's. I don't know how large of a chain it is so that's why I told you what it's like. Anyway, apparently on Friday night a man called up four seperate Wendy's locations, talked to the manager on duity pretending to be a police officer, and told them they feared that one of their employees stole a large amount of money from a customer. They then told the managers at each location they called to conduct a strip search of the employee, while staying over the phone and instructed on how to do it. The managers were each told they would be arrested for failing to comply with what they were told to do, so ALL of them did it.
Now I happened to go to Wendy's this afternoon for lunch with my brother. As we left a reporter snagged me and interviewed me. I didn't really feel like being on TV, but it was the only way to get rid of her. She told me about what happened, which I didn't hear about it until she told me (otherwise I wouldn't have gone there, I mean if the manager is that much of a dimwit to fall for that, I don't consider them inteligent enough to make my food...) about it. I said a bunch of things, most of them at least fairly inteligent sounding I guess. I went home, turned on The WB News at 10 PM (yeah, just a few minutes ago), and out of all of the NUMERIOUS people I watched her interview as I was eating, the only person they put on the air was me. Out of everything half way intelegent they got on film, they only aired my initial reactions, "That's weird... That is just weird." Yep, and I told half my friends to watch that. Nice to know my intelegence was shown on air to everyone like that lmao!
Anyway, what I actually said were stuff about how the manager had to be prety stupid to fall for that. I said some more stuff about what I saw in the resteraunt as I was eating, that a manager was taking a bunch of associates aside and making them fill out paper work. I said I could hear some of what they said and it sounded like Wendy's wanted to hush thins up. You would think a reporter who just wants her name to fame would have aired that, as apposed to "That's weird... That's just weird."
Newspeople do that all the time. It makes them feel good about themselves when they show someone saying or doing something dumb.
My dad used to waterski. A newsteam video taped him all day long doing great stunts over and over again. What did they show on the news that night? Him wiping out and getting dragged across the water.
To add insult to injury, they put it on the intro eevry night for two years.

First- Chris, Wendy's is ALL over the states. It's bigger than Burger King. In the west, they're easier to find than McDonalds.
I can't believe a manager would fall for that. For one, ONLY a police officer can perform those kinds of searches and could NEVER delegate that duty to a third party, especially when it involves the suspicion of a crime since a third party doesn't know what to look for and could tamper evidence. And while a police officer is allowed to do a mild frisk when there is some probable cause that the person's body has evidence on it, you can NEVER strip search unless you have a HIGH level of proof to make the person sumbit to the search. Usually, like Locke said, you're going to need a warrant before actually doing a full strip search, but a police officer (and only an official officer of the law) can perform a strip search without a warrant if they can prove through clear evidence that they had reasonable suspicion of the necessity of the search.
Those managers are idiots.

Chris - you say that you said all of these intelligent things... where's the proof? are you covering? cuz that's weird.... just weird! lol
and there is no way in hell (unless my manager was the hottest man alive) that I'd let my manager do that do me - he'd be eating his burgers pureed for the rest of his life if he even tried!!

Wow, never realized Wendy's is so big. Doesn't surprise me though, now that I think about it. Their food tastes a hell of a lot better then McDonald's and Burger King's stuff (not that I don't like it).
And to add to what Helen said, not only do you have to be an officer, but isn't it true you also have to be the same sex as the person doing the search? My mother seemed pretty certian that is the law, but that could always not be true. She seems positive on a lot of things that aren't true sometimes.
...You know, I actually went to www.wb56.com last night to look for that story on the web site. It wasn't up. But it seemed fairly new news because it happened Friday but wasn't on a single news station until last night. Probably kept quiet for a bit I guess. Maybe I'll check again and see if they bothered to put it up. It was the second story on the news so it must be somewhat important to be nearly first in line.
There is the actual news story from The Boston Herald. Now, this actually makes me wonder if what I heard from The WB 56 reporter was being over dramatic, because it specifically says that a female manager at one of the locations asked a male associate to remove his cloathing. It doesn't say that the others went that far and asked, but it also doesn't say that they didn't ask. And the story also doesn't specify if the employees actually listened to their managers and removed any article of cloathing, which the reporter made it sound like they did when I spoke with her. And they said they suspended the managers pending an investigation. So I suppose they could still be fired. I personaly think the whole thing sucks. I feel bad for the employees, and also the managers. But at the same time that I feel bad for the managers for being tricked like that (I assume something like that would be kind of stressful for them), I still feel they should be fired because what they did was wrong. Tricked or not, it doesn't take much comon sense at all to tell the person on the phone to come down to the resteraunt if they really are a cop and speak to them in person.
Actually it DOES say that the others went that far. They also singled out the female manager/male employee one. They didn't specify whether any other cross-gender searches were conducted, but it does say that at each restaraunt, one supervisor asked one employee. It doesn't say if anyone complied.
Now the burning question that everyone wants to ask:
Would you like to "Biggie Size" that?

Blasphemous! I can't believe you rate wendy's over burger king...i religiously go to wendy's for "frosties" whenever I am within a block of one...but if i want a burger, I go to burger King(or A&W).
Hey, some of you may be young here but...Does anyone remember the time(in early 90s) when Mcdonald's food owned? I only go there occasionally for breakfast now.
Oh, and up here in Canada(not really far north, considering I am further south then new york), all the fast food restraunts you listed are pretty popular.)

I don't understand the question. "... when Mcdonald's food owned?" Do you mean when McDonald's owned the food industry?
Presently I prefer Wendy's over McDs or BK, but I prefer local hotdog/hamburger places over them all. McDs still has the best fries, but the service in my area is horrible. If anybody lasts 2 weeks working in a store, they make them a manager. BK has decent burgers but I don't like what they did to their fries (batter dipped).
The local hotdog/hamburger restaraunts have better tasting food and their variety makes more sense to me than McD's does.
Oh, by the way, I worked my way through high school and college at McDs, all the way from table cleaner to manager (not just 2 weeks either).

You know, I was at an ice cream shop with my brother today. I could hear some people in a booth somewere behind me talking about the Wendy's incedent. Yep, apparently one of them watched the same news that I was on. The guy recognized me and started mumbeling "That's so weird" under his breath. Stupid people suck!
Just an added comment- yes, Chris is right. The officer MUST be the same gender as the person being searched. Believe me, there's been plenty of suits over airport security males lately trying to strip search women.

Did the Reporter look anything like Rita Skeeter? LOL, Now we know the secret people..
They will blow up the story to the piont that it's just absurd in order to get the most pathetic initial response..
Chris- about the baskin robins incedent... do you want for me to kick him in the shins for you? ( the trick is to run away as fast as possible)
Dad-eye - Right on man! I love to meet a fellow former McD manager! Is it just me, or have you never wanted McD's again? It's been almost 5 years, and I still haven't been back <shudder>

When you were talking about the Ice cream shop, I just placed the name Baskin Robins on it. (it's the only ice cream shop I know of)
I meant that guy who recognized you... sorry to confuse

The best place for a burger is Harvey's. Although you don't have then in the US, do you?
They have them in "The Home Depot", and in order to exit home depot, you have to walk through the Harvey's(Which they, of course, do to make you smell the burgers, and end up buying one - hey, it works on me, lol)

Me: Well, i'm going to go. I'm going out for pizza. I just found a toonie on the floor, so why not use it?
Chris: Toonie? What the hell is a toonie?

Well that settles it. I'll visit Ausie, but I'm not moving there. I can't live a life hiding from my one passion of cheese sticks...
No, but seriously, how can you not have cheese sticks there? They are great as appitizers. ...Why did I click this thread while I was hungry?
Yeah, I've heard of Sonic Burgers, but I've never seen one around here. Their are commercials, so I know they are hiding around here somewere, but yet I can't seem to find one!
LOL!
Laramie just got its first Sonic Burgers two weeks ago. It's now the biggest hang-out spot in town- for kids and adults. I drove by it with a friend and the place was so packed that there was a line onto the street waiting for a parking place (which you never see in a town as small as Laramie). As my friend commented: You put out a pretty light in this town and people flock to it like moths.

My friend opted to buy dinner tonight. I think I may go hunting for a Sonic burger now. See what all the fuss is about. ...My luck I will either hate it after a long and tiresome quest for meat, or I will give up looking. Any votes which will come first lol?
