I bet you opened this to see what I think, or if I found something with proof about it, right lol? Nope. You wish too much! What I did find though, is that on Muggle Net they have, for this week, a vote on who people think the next Minister will be. Go vote! So far Mr. Wheesly is in the lead by a stretch. ...Amazingly enough people voted for Grawp.

That poll is hardly fair. Your choices are Arthur, D'dore, Grawp, and "Someone Else". No wonder people are voting for Grawp! Almost makes it pointless.

They probably do have a limit on how many choices they can offer, still, they could have offered five or six real choices.  I mean, really.  Grawp?

I suppose its sort of in line with the presidental election season.

Even if 5 or 6 candidates were possible, who would be on the list?  The only viable choice, based on the information we have is Authur Weasley.  Dumbledore isn't going to do it.  Lucius Malfoy is in prision.  No one else has enough prominence, at least in the canon.

yeah ive been wondering ever since jkr said thered be a new minister how the election works. definately mr weasley will run 4 minister because of rons comment in book 5 about how they hav as good a chance of winning the quidditch cup as his dad does of becoming minister of magic. percy will probaly run 2 considering hes junior minister. could put some tension between mr weasly and percy again.

I actually never considered Percy to run. I don't know why, it makes perfect sense that he would.

Oops, I didn't see this thread, so I commented on the poll in another thread. Sorry!
Yeah, now that you mention it, it does make sense that Percy would run for minister and I think it would be interesting if he'd actually win.
I still think he might become a Death Eater though.

Yeah, Percy seems to gravitate towards power more than anything else. I could see him turning over to the dark side. But wouldn't it be interesting if he DID become minister of magic (who holds more power than that at the current moment in time?) but once Voldey becomes stronger, like his former self, he may go to him. What if Percy turned the Ministry over to Voldemort!!!??? lol. I think that Arthur isn't going to even run (despite said quote of forshadowment) simply because it was said, several times early in the series, that he would never leave his position if the muggle artifacts department because he loves muggles so much. (Wasn't Arthur onced offered the position but he turned it down for that reason, or am I getting that confused with something else. I know that Dumbledore was definately offered the position but turned it down because of Hogwarts, which is why I don't think he'll try to get in this time either. But maybe, considering the circumstances......... who knows besides JKR herself?).

I'm still considering Molly for the job. Wasn't there a reference to her as Minister in GoF?

I am not sure, however, that the MoM is neccesarily elected. I always got the feeling that it was an appointed cabinet position. The Prime Minister clearly knows about the magical world, D has gone to see him multiple times and the series is laced with similar comments about the Prime Minisister. Now, not knowing all of the odds and ends of a Parlimentary govt, can't a minister be anyone or do they, like the prime minister, have to be in Parliment? If the former, then i have always fel that the Prime Minister appointed him (and was probably ratified by the Wizard legislative body rather than parliment) and that he in essence became the leader of the magical world, the prime minister ive always felt was hands off. If the latter, well then my theory is screwed and more than likely the MoM (hey when abbreviated that mom, maybe it is mrs. weasley lol) and is probably chosen by the wizarding legislative body very similar to the Prime Minister.

i think u get elected because it says in book 1 Fudge was running against dd which makes it sound like an election. i think Mr. Weasley will be minister because he may need to accept a promotion. after all mr weasley couldve been promoted and helped his family but instead chose doing what he liked instead of whats best 4 the family. this may be another thing that pissed percy off. mr weasley put his love of muggles before his family.

I don't think that it was an election, otherwise why would DD have run in the first place? In book one Hagrid says "THEY wanted him to minister of magic." Well, typically when someone doesnt want to be elected they don't run. That is the entire reason I feel it is an appointed. Whoever "they" are whether that is Parliment or the wizarding legislative body i don't know. The thing that makes me think that it is a cabinet position for the prime minister is because only the office is referred to as the Ministry and the subdivisions are referred to as departments. Now in europe, correct me if im wrong, the ministries are like American departments headed by a minister rather than a secretary and your departments are similar to our agencies.

I am going to go with the following:

Fudge has a breakdown, the Wizangamot appoints Arthur as interim MOM, and then eventually he gets the job permantly.

Do any of you really think that the government of the magical community is directly related to the government of the muggle community? I can see why they may need to keep communications up for certain purposes, but I don't see why there would be a direct connection between the two. I'm sure that the Misiter of Magic from any country knows the Prime Minister, President, or whatever from that country's government for things such as dangerous people on the loose (as in PoA) but I doubt that Muggle Governments and Wizarding Governments are directly linked to eachother.

I think it may be an election. But you can't choose to go and run yourself, you have to be nominated. Has anyone mentioned that idea yet, being nominated to run, and then they are elected from who was nominated?

And, CJ (I think it was CJ who said it), I don't think Arthor was running or numinated or anythign for MoM. I think he was offered a different promotion, but nothing that high yet. Now if it is a nomination to run for votes, then obviously Dumbledore would put himself in the position to nominate someone. Probably someone from within his own Order (Order of the Phoenix that is). Now no doubtably if they are voted on by the public after they have been nominated then everyone in the Order would back Albus' nomination. Not to mention Albus has so much respect from most of the wizerding comunity that if nominates someone, they practicaly have their foot already in the door, in my opinion. Now that brings us back to who would be nominated? I think it would be Arthor. He's in the Order, highly loyal to Albus (but DD wouldn't control him because of mutual respect obviously, just offer advice and what not), he loves muggles enough to change things and make a difference.

if theres no election and some1 is appointed i think Mr. Weasley will be appointed. Honestly the Ministry was so in denial about Voldy returning i doubt anybody else would want 2 be minister when Voldemorts around. Percy's wanted 2 be minister of magic so i think he'll probably want to be minister and him and Arthur will still be mad at each other. i doubt Percys gonna join the Order and forget the whole thing. hes too stubborn to admit he was wrong.
