In book one, Hagrid is at the hut on the rock, and he writes Ddore a letter, saying something like, "I've got harry. Weather is horrible. Hope your well, Hagrid."
The next day, the hurricane is gone, and the weather is superb.
What gives? Ddore may have intervened to give them smoother sailing.
Whatcha thinky?

I was starting to think maybe.... but then I changed my mind.
I'm voting for no. Simply because this has never been mentioned by JKR before, to my knowledge as a 'power' in her books. Also, I think JKR might have put limits on her creations in order not to make them too 'god-like'? [Why do I insist on responding first thing in the morning when I am at my worst? ... oh yeah, I'm a masochist].

I have a feeling that weather conditions can not be controled by wizards. Otherwise, why would they do anything out in the cold and rain when they could make it warm and sunny?

My thoughts are that maybe a very experienced and powerful wizard COULD find a way to do it. But, it would have to be a very special circumstance for him/her to attempt it.
I don't necessarily believe that Dumbledore was the cause for the weather change mentioned above, but I think that if he had a strong enough cause to try it, he might be able to pull it off.

I'm gonna keep this amusing theory in the back of my brain. There's something about it that I like. I didn't think of Hagrid's comment to D'dore in that way, but maybe, just maybe.
In some wizard stories, the grandest of the sorcerers was usually able to command a storm to appear. The reverse might also be true.

Just because you would have the power to change the weather to your own will, does not nessesarily mean it is right. I disagree, I don't think JKR's wizards can do it...otherwise Voldemorte would do just that and make the weather how he wanted it. Then again maybe it requires alot of strength...but if it was possible, don't you think all quiditch matches would be played in the same weather...for the convinience of the players and spectators...thats just my thinking. In the LotR movie Fellowship, Jackson portrays Saruman as being capable of controlling the mountain...i believe the mountain did it itself in the book however.

These are all very good arguments. I did, however, put a lot of thought into this (too much, if you ask me) and I expect that for D'dore to control the weather, like you said, Amanda, there would have to be a good reason. What better reason than ensuring the totally safe passage of Harry Potter to Hogwarts? Think about who he is. He was the boy who lived, so of course D'dore is going to treat him with kid gloves. He even admitted to Harry at the end of OoTP that his prime concern was Harry's safety. It's not that safe, travelling in a hurricane.
And about JK not ever mentioning it, when has she ever revealed anything unless the publishers nd fans pressured her to? She'd rather keep it all under wraps.
I'm not even sure if it was just a coincidence, but it seems far too slim to be one.

I had specifically thought of Quidditch when I was thinking about the weather. But I would think that D'dore wouldn't alter the weather for the games since they are meant to be played in all weather, and not necessarily life threatening.

How long does really bad weather last? Take that into account as well. I strongly believe that it was coincidence. How many times have you gone to bed in horrible weather and then woken up to a new day without sign of a hurricane? I know I have.
Ha! I can't help thinking about "ANNIE" and that TOMORROW is only a day away. And to further this line of thought... maybe it WAS Rowling suggesting that tomorrow will be a better day.
Although I like the idea of her wizards being able to control weather, I don't see anything to back it up.
