okay now in book 5 Uncle Vernon tries 2 kick harry out of the house. he says he doesnt no y they even kept him. so uncle vernon doesnt no bout Aunt Petunia's magical protection. it seems as if uncle vernons alot meaner 2 harry than Petunia. Petunia may be rude and nasty but she isnt as abusive as Vernon. in book 1 when there trying 2 escape from the owls Uncle Vernon is going mad tryin 2 stop the letters not aunt petunia. Shouldnt Aunt Petunia hate magic more than Vernon? during the car ride when Vernons tryin 2 escape from all the letters petunia suggests they go home. i think the only reason Aunt Petunia hates magic is cause Uncle Vernon hates it and she doesnt want him 2 think shes a "freak" and the way Aunt Petunia talked about Azkaban she says she overheard James telling Lily. it sounds like Aunt petunia lived in the wizard world. heres my theory that lilys older by 1 year and the Evans family including Lily is attacked by Voldy on the street. Voldemort kills the Evans and Lily fights Voldy (first time defied) Aunt Petunia would get sent 2 an orphanage because she has no other relatives. Lily decides 2 adopt Petunia and they live together in the wizard world. she meets some Order members and Dumbledore otherwise how else would DD no lily had a sister when he sent harry to privet drive? now aunt petunia feels obligated 2 take in her sisters son and 2 protect harry from Voldy who killed her parents as well. she and Harry were very similar so she felt she wanted 2 protect harry sorry this post is so long

Woah. OK - started off good, but quickly became quite tangental. Try puntuating your sentences and break them up into paragraphs. That was quite a slog to read.

Now to the meat of your idea.
From what I've gathered, Aunt Petunia has always hated magic ever since Lily was invited to Hogwarts. The tea cup into a rat incident etc.
Jealousy was also obvious. Petunia may have felt shunned by her parents when Petunia was home. Which was like every few months for crying out loud. Probably also an explanation for spoiling Dudley - aswell as just being submissive parents.

Now for the other bit:
I doubt Voldy would have attacked Lily and Petunia in the street and killed their parents. If so - i'm sure it would have been common knowledge by now. Well known people like the Potters don't just have their parents murdered by the most evil wizard in history and not have it made public.
Perhaps Petunia did live with Lily for a while - but it's sure that she was already married and living with Vernon at that stage - since that's where Hagrid dropped Harry off the night Lily and James were killed.

bugger mental block. If I remember what else I was going to say - I'll post it later.
Hope this helped dude. Keep up the groovy questions.

I do think Vernon hates the magic world a lot more than Petunia. But Petunia must hate it too. In her case it's probably more jealousy than prejudice or wanting to be normal (like Vernon).
Is it possible to adopt one's own sister? Especially if she's only a year younger?
