Okay, so here is the letter to JKR which will go with our list of questions.  I'm still working my way through the questions trying to get them all in without making the list too long.  I'd hate for someone to just chuck it before she even sees it.  I have a couple of questions for you all, first, though...

First, can someone give me the link to the transcript of her online interview thingy?  I thought I had copied the whole thing to a file, but evidently, I didn't.

Second, is it just me, or does it sound really dopey inviting her to the board?  Like she'd really ever show up...  I gave her a suggestion for a login that I am not putting up here.  That way, if she did actually show up, we would know it was her and not someone playing a stupid joke.  I am the only one who knows what I suggested (I changed it after we talked about it MadEye, but I forget why now...) so the chances of anyone just stumbling across it are small.  What do you think?  Invite or not invite?  I don't want to sound to weird and creepy but I don't want to skip it if you think it is a good idea.

Okay, so here is the letter (minus questions - I'll put those up later) -

Dear Ms. Rowling,

I am a moderator for an online message board devoted to discussion of your Harry Potter books. We were very pleased to see the transcript of your online chat in early March as it gave us much to think about and to discuss. Still, as you might suppose, there is much we would like to know regarding the first five books of the series and, of course, the much anticipated sixth and seventh installments.

Our board is fairly large and active, comprising members ranging in age from 12 years to 52 years and living all across the United States, Canada, Austrailia, Great Britian and several other locations in Europe and Asia. We share an enthusiasm for your books and enjoy creating and picking apart theories regarding many aspects of the world you created in them. I have attached a list of questions compiled from submissions by our board members. We realize the list is extensive and to answer some questions might cause you to give away more of the story than you wish. While we are aware that you cannot answer all our questions, we would greatly appreciate any answers you feel you can give us.

We are equally aware that your time is quite precious and the demands upon it are constantly increasing. However, the board members wished to extend to you and invitation to visit at any time. Should you choose to visit us you will find the “HP Rumors/Discussion Board” at http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/137625 . As you will need to create an account and login, we would like to suggest that you use the login, '-----' so that we will know you.

We thank you for your time and look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

Sandy, I think it sounds very mature and professional. I like the idea of inviting her onto the board! You never know, she does visit HP sites. Perhaps we might get lucky!

It looks very nice - just one typo: Should read "to extend to you an invitation..."

As far as inviting her, I don't think it's too weird or creepy. I might suggest that you tell her that she can visit us anonymously by creating her own account, or, if she wanted us to know that it was her, to use the account you gave her.

Here's the interview:

Maybe you should also mention that we have had idiots come here and pose as people they are not, in some instances actors from the movies and that you sugest the login just so we don't accidently accuse her of not being her when she really is. Then say she can visit annonomously if she wishes also obviously, but if she did tell us who she was we just wouldn't want to have someone not beleive her and give her unneccecery trouble. But you can make it sound a bit more profesonal as Sev put it, and get rid of my typos lol.

I'm glad I finished the thread before posting. I was just going to put up the link to the chat transcript, but DadEye seems to have already done it.

One more thing, on the address to our board, Mo made a shorter one, but I don't remember it. Like my personal web site is http://www.geocities.com/cpgkeyca2 but I made http://www.keycasplace.tk so it is easier to remember. Mo did the same thing, but I don't know the address. Maybe if you get it from Mo and it is an easier one then this then that would be better? I don't know, that's just my opinion.

Oh, and it doesn't sound creepy. Just desperat lol! I'm kidding of course, but in reality it kind of has a sense of truth to what I just said in my head...

Whoof!  Now matter how many times I read a thing, I can still miss a typo like that!  Thanks, Dad-Eye.  It shall be attended to.  I will add the bit about visiting anonymously but I think I will leave out the annoybie warning.  I'm sure she is aware that people do that sort of thing and I'd rather not dwell on it.

Thanks for the link.  I'll try to have the questions all polished up soon.  I'm sorry this is taking longer than I had planned.  I've spent an awful lot of time on the phone with the insurance people over our stolen car.  How annoying!  That, with about 15,000 other real life issues, has somewhat distracted me from my task...

Someone stole your car??? Joy ride kind of thing, or is it more like Gone in 60 Seconds? Meaning: was it just some random thing, or did you have a really, really nice car?

Definitely a random thing.  The car was 10 years old and a Saturn to boot.  Can't imagine why they wanted the thing.  However, it has been gone 16 days now and is declared a total loss.  Bleh.  We are in the midst of settling with the insurance company.  Fortunately, we had planned on trading it in later this year anyway.

I think inviing her to the board is a good idea. There are a LOT of anti-movie comments lying around though.

I'd also suggest making an easy url (like a .tk or something) to avoid any problems with that long url.

www.cjb.net is a free and easy to use redirection service to significantly shorten URLs to your website. Maybe if you wanted to sign up with them for this board, that would be good.

That's what I was getting at. Moriah already made a shortened URL for the page. But nobody I ask seems to remember what it was and I haven't had a chance to IM Moriah in ages upon ages! But she is betaing for Sandy, so I figure it won't be hard for Sandy to ask Mo.

Riley brings up a good point. Although I think it unlikely that JKR would come here, if she, or an assistant, came and looked back randomly over time, they might find those brief rants of ours when we were frustrated with the delays of book 5. I seem to remember a trip being planned that involved a kidnapping...

Sounds good so far but I think you spelled Australia wrong. It would be really cool if JKR actually had time to come onto our board.

I think it was www.harrypotterboard.tk but since I haven't gone back to confirm that it's still in use, it's gone... but the domain is up for grabs again.

I did, in fact, misspell Australia.  I have fixed it and a couple other typos that I don't know how I missed before.

Mo, I'll check on that domain name.  Frankly, I think it is still okay to use the regular Net54 link, otherwise.
