Found this on-line... The "Molly" Lily is an orange flower (Fleur). Hmmmmmmm. Think there is any connection, or am I just rrecahing because I'm bored.

Sorry if this is a "waste of your time" or anything. I just wanted to start up a discussion.

Well, there is no doubt that JKR put more than just a little thought into naming her characters.  In some cases, there seems to be real relevance and not just interesting connections.  The trouble with analyzing the stories to this degree, however, is that we can begin to find deep meaning in separate blades of grass, or worse, in socks.

Still, it is fun to look at all the hidden connections in the stories.

Yep. Look deep enough and you can connect any character to each other and find a solid link between them. It does seem very interesting to notice such a link, and for all we know, there is something there. But just as likely, if there was a link, it probably was to show that Molly would be a mother figure to Harry, just like Lily was. Or there could be something more or JKR picked the name from a different source...we just don't know.

I'm telling you, Socks will be involved when Harry meets Sally, I mean defeats Voldy! In fact, I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that not only will Socks be there at the exact moment that someone dies, but that Socks will definately NOT be the one killed.

This problem was really brought home in the latest on-line chat with JKR.  We have all weighed in on the Snape as a vampire theory.  There seem to be lots of clues or references to it. However, the clues may be more the result of our relentless disection of the material than a conscience attempt on Rowlings part to leave us a clue.  Her response to the question of Snapes possible vampire connection was something like 'I don't think so'.

We may be simply reading too much into some things.  Its hard not to though, since in some areas she has done some incredible research.  (names in particular).

I wonder if socks aren't an inside joke?

All these "clues" people use for the silliest theories remind me of the "clues" about Paul McCartney being dead.

Maybe it just means that they're both red-haired (orange flower). Or it's a coincidence. At least they're definitely NOT related! That would be some cliché.

Definitely. I don't think for a second they're related. Anyway, the people who believe that would then go on and say, "so Lily must have actually been a witch, thus defeating one of the better points of the story that a muggle-born's own power defeated the very man who claimed muggle-borns were weak, and even further, Snape is Lily's twin brother, thus giving us that well-needed Star Wars element, and Voldemort is Lily's father! Star Wars again!"

In conclusion, I REALLY HATE the theories that try to make everyone related.
