OK, I thought I remembered awhile ago someone saying they watched Roseanne religiously or something... but even if I made that up I still have a question!

The other day I saw the finale of Roseanne and I'm SO confused. Hah, figures. She said Dan was really dead, never cheated on her, and her sister was gay, and that Darlene was married to her sister's husband? WHAT?! I know it's a somewhat old show but all I watch is Nick at Nite so it's like-new to me If someone knows what i'm talking about and can explain I'd be grateful...

Yay! I'm not the only one in the world who watches the show!

Try and picture the Roseanne from the show as a real person (what I meen is the character Roseanne is not based on the actress Roseanne Barr's life, it's the character's life). She prety much wrote a story of her life, but as the story unfolds she changed details to make her life better on how she would have liked it to unfold. Like the character Roseanne wanted her husband alive, and them to win the lottery. She thought that Becky and Darleen's husbands suited the other person better so she wrote them up like that. She wrote her mom being gay and her sister not because she would think how their lives would be better off the way she wrote them. So she prety much tells as at the end of the last episode that the TV viewers are seeing this as what they would read in a book if the character made her true life story and printed it.

Now, I don't know much about the actress Roseanne except from the TV shows I saw. But I know she created the she herself and she created the characters. If she created the characters bassed on her family, or bassed on her friends and their familes, then I have no clue. I'm going on the assumption yoiu are to look at this as if Roseanne Conner from the show is a real person and this is her life story (when you know it's a fictional person). Wow, do I suck at explaining things or what? Did ANY of that make ANY sense?

Have you two noticed how much weight she has lost?! I saw an interview with her for the new movie Home On The Range. And she was so skinny.

I haven't seen a picture of her dated after her series ended. But in the series she kept loosing weight, then gaining it back, and loosing it, and the cycle kept continueing. So if she is thin now, she will probably get it back eventually. I could be wrong, and either way good luck to her with the weight loss.

Do you have a picture of her taken recently?

I don't believe that the show was based on Rosanne Barr's family, per'se (sp?). The show was based off of her standup routine (when she use to be funny) where she complained about being called a house wife. She wanted to be called a "Domestic Goddess".

We watched that show faithfully until the end. The series ender was pretty dissapointing to us.

The only thing I was really dissapointed with in the ender was her swapping Becky's husband with Darleen's. I got so used to Mark and David being with who they were with, not the toher way around. Other then that it wasn't too dissapointing I thought. And the thing about Roseanne's sis being gay didn't surprise me. Her character always struck me as gay. Well, gay or strait she was always one of the funnier people on the show I thought.

OK still a tiny bit confused.... I understand most but in "real life" (Roseanne not writing) - was Darlene with Mark or David? I know in Roseanne's story within a story or w/e, she was with David. But then she really was with Mark? So confusing.

Dan dying was so sad. I liked that part and hated it too cause Dan was cool and I didn't want Dan to die... but then throwing everything else in about the switching of husbands/switching gay people just confused me and made it seem like wizard of oz waking from a dream type thing.

And were Mark and David brothers? Isn't two brothers dating two sisters kind of... off? Heh. OH well

Speaking of Roseanne, did anyone see Jann Arden sing the Canadian anthem at the Flames home game last week? SHEESH!

Jan Arden? Don't recognize the name, sorry. Who is she?

Yes, Mark and David are brothers. I do agree it does seem a bit weird. Actually I was under the impression it was still considered incest. But I had a debate about it with someone and it turns out it is perfectly fine apaprently. I wouldn't go looking to find out if my brother is dating someone with a sister or anything, but I suppose if the feelings are strong enough when you like someone and then you find out your brother is dating the girl's siter I wouldn't stop for that reason alone I guess since it isn't considered incest. Now if they changed the law then that would be a different story. Personaly I did think it was extremely weird at first, but the more I saw the show, and the more I actually heard about people I know in similer situations I guess it doesn't bother me so much any more since you really aren't dating someone you are related to by blood or anything. But to answer the actual question, David and Mark on the show are brothers. David was with Darleene and Becky was with Mark until the end when Roseanne swapped them around. Kind of strange how she ended the show like that. But she was trying to go for strange and memorable, or I guess different and memorable would be what she wanted, and well it worked so good for her I guess.

OMG, I watch Roseanne MORE than religiously every single day!!! I watch it on three differnt networks a day, a full hour on each network. I LOVE this show, and I am taping the entire run of it off of the Oxygen network right now as well. I am also on the Roseanne to DVD campaign (which is essentially bombarding Carsey Werner with complaints that it should be put onto DVD and including the Roseanne to DVD campaign photo). I am also an active member of two Roseanne (the sitcom) fanboards.

ANYWAY, I think that someone earlier on in this thread went over it pretty good but I'll go over it again anyway just for the hell of it.

Roseanne Conner and her family had two differnt stories behind them. One was the "fake" Conner family, which we saw for 9 years on TV, and the other is the "real" Conner family, which we found out about during Roseanne's final monolouge in the show's finale. Her writing in her book is what we saw on TV. She parrelled the Conner's "real" life and made some changes along the way to make life more the way that she wanted it to be. In the Conner's "real" life, Dan died from his heart attack in at David and Darlene's wedding reception toward the end of the 8th season, but she made him live. She made Dan cheat on her in her book because she felt as though she had been cheated on when he died. Also, the whole 9th season was pretty much fake. They never won the lottory or went on any of those wacky adventures. She just wrote those things in her book as a way to deal with Dan's death, because she couldn't handle it. Though some things were real. Remember the episode "the war room", where Roseanne locks herself in her bedroom and won't come out? That really happened because she was in a deep depression over Dan's death in real life, but in the book it was because he cheated on her. She said that she never fully came out of her depression until Darlene's baby was born early and it almost died and she snapped out of it because her family still really needed her. And remember all of the Wellman stuff? She said that she fantasized about other men and then felt guilty about it so she had to make herself think that it was because of some business type of deal.
Also, in real life, Becky married David and Darlene married Mark, but Roseanne thought that they would be much more compatible the other way around, so she "did what any good mother would do", she fixed it.
Bev was not gay in real life but Jackie was. She mentions that she always imagined Jackie with a man though, even though she always told her that she was gay and so made her straight in her book.
Leon was a lot more boring in real life than Roseanne made him out to be, and Scott was about the same. There was also no major revelation about DJ either, other than he was a little more of a nerd in real life than he was made out to be in her book.
She says that she never knew what happened to Nancy's husband Arnie but in her book she sent him into outer space.

Anyway, that's what I can say for now. That last episode makes me cry like a baby every single time when they show Dan, and then pan away from him, and then when they go back he's not there anymore and she starts talking about how he died from his heart attack. It's just so sad and emotional.

I also HATED that she changed the couples around. I could NEVER even imagine it the other way around, ever. DAVID AND DARLENE FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, about Roseanne's apperance:

She's had gastric (sp?) bypass, tummy tuck, face lift, I'm not sure what all else. I saw her on Ellen not too long ago. She was there to talk about Home on the Range but they also talked about a few other things as well and that was one of them.

When Tom Arnold left the show (guy sent to outer space), was that when Roseanne filed for divorce from him in real life, or were they still married after he left?

What made me mad was certian people just dissapeared and never really returned with no explenation. Remember when Roseanne worked at the resteraunt? The blond fat lady that was friends with her never showed up after they lost their jobs. They did explain why the neighbor lady she hated left, moved away. But what happened to Crystal, Dan's father (her husband) and her children? They just dissapeared from the show and that annoyed me the most.

Actually what annoyed me about the show was how they replaced Becky in the show like half way through it. Why did that happen anyway? I hate when shows just put a new actress in place of another on when she doesn't even look or sound much like the original!

I think that this show actually did a pretty good job at portraying what real life is actually like (minus the whole 9th season, of course) and throughout life, many people, even good friends, do come and go and sometimes without explanation. The Bowmans (the family next door which included the lady that Roseanne didn't get along with) moved back to Chicago. I have no clue whatever happend to the guy with the two daughters (Molly and Charolette) or the old naked couple.

Crystal married Ed and both characters and their children became a lesser part of the show, although both Ed and Crystal are refured to several times throughout the show's run even into the last season. Crystal's last apperance on screen was in the season 8 premeir "shower the people you love with stuff" but she was mentioned a few times afterwards.

I have no clue what happened to Bonnie but I did like her. I loved her singing (you've got a hold on me) in the end of the mothers day episode.

I think that Tom Arnold's disapperance from the show happened before the time that him and Roseanne Barr divorced. He left as Arnie in the season 4 finale "aliens", but appeared as himself in an episode from season 5 "lose a job, winnebago". I don't think that he would have been on the show at all after the divorce.

Now, as for the character of Becky, here's the deal. Lecy Goranson (Becky #1) left the show to go to college. So, Sarah Chalke (Becky #2) took over the role of Becky. Lecy returns in season 8 because at the time, the 8th season was supposed to be the show's last season. But, Roseanne decided at the very last minute that she wanted a 9th season, and Sarah Chalke was put back in place as Becky while Lecy returned to college full time agian. Note that Sarah Chalke was also in a couple of 8th season episodes including the Disney World episodes.

Oh, just remembered something, in a 5th season episode, "stand on your man", Tom Arnold does come in as Arnie, and that is his last apperance as Arnie on the show. That episode came before "lose a job, winnebago".

Well, I hope that that helps to answer your questions! If you've got any more, send them my way!!!

PS yikes, I know way too much about this show!!! Oh well, I love it so how can I fight it???

Umm, who were the naked couple? I do not remember them at all.

LOL CJ you're awesome, I know who to come to w/ Roseanne questinos at least!

I thought Dan dying was SO sad too, glad I'm not the only one. Cause they were actually getting along somewhat and then he's just gone and you find out he's dead - I thought that was very depressing.

I actually think the constant switching of Becky's was funny but that's just me. I hated the switching of the boyfriends at the end, even though I never noticed it'd more likely be Darlene/Mark and Becky/David, I think it's better the opposite.

The old naked couple were neighbors after the Tildens (Molly, Charolette, and their dad) left. They only appeared in one episode in season 7 "rear window". They are really old people who walk around their house nude all day long and Dan and Roseanne watch them from their bedroom window. Well later, they have the neighbors over (and their dressed, thank god) and Dan and Roseanne try to tell the neighbors about what's been going on and they don't get it at first but when they do, they start telling Dan and Roseanne that they like the human body in its natural state and that's why they do that and if Dan and Roseanne don't like it then they shouldn't be looking at them. Well, Dan and Roseanne say that it's kind of hard not to look and when the old couple disagree and say that they wouldn't have a problem with others doing it, one of the funniest things on the show happend:
Roseanne (with back to the audience and cameras) rips open the buttons on her shirt and yells "What color are my eyes?". Well, the old people are so startled that they get up in a hurry to leave and that they tell Dan and Roseanne that they are very sick people and that they are going to tell all of their neighbors just what kind of people they really are and as they are walking out Roseanne yells "well it's too late for that, they already know!".

LOL!!!!!!!!! That scene is a classic. It's so funny!!!
