before OOTP: POA
after OOTP: OOTP (it actually explained stuff instead of leaving us in the dark)
least favorite: GOF

"You too are about to learn what happens to wrongdoing at my school."
Filch cracked his whip threatingly.
"You know what? said Fred. "I dont think we are. George, I think we've outgrown
full-time education."
"Yeah, I've been feeling that way myself," said George lightly.
"Time to test our talents in the real world, d'you reckon?" asked Fred.
"Definitely," said George.
And before Umbridge could say a word, they raised their wands and said together,
"Accio Brooms!"...
"Give her hell from us, Peeves!"
"I didn't know you could read."

POA, GOF, SS, OOTP, COS
COS had a lot of funny parts in it, but it was somehow missing something to it that I can't quite put my finger on. Not saying that it was a bad book by any means. I loved it just like I love all the books, but it is my least favriote so far.
OOTP for some reason just didn't do it for. It just kept going on and on and on with quite a few boring parts. Though it did have that awsome part at the end and you can really see why people think so highly of Albus Dumbledore!!! It also had other good parts, and we did find out quite a bit of information in it essential to the series' plot.
SS was the introduction to Harry, the Dursleys, and the wizarding world. It had a pretty good story line without any parts that I would consider to be boring. The originalty of it all also put it a bit higher than COS and OOTP.
GOF was awsome, though in some parts, like OOTP, just drug on and were kind of borning. However, MOST of GOF was not boring at all, and it was the turning point of the series. The whole Harry/Voldemort part towards the end was awsome, and is one of my favriote parts of the entire series to this point. We also got to meet other witches and wizards from other parts of the world, which up until then, I wasn't even thinking about, just like Harry. lol.
POA is so far my favriote book in the series. I just absolutely love the whole atmosphere that the book gives off when you read it. Again, I can't think of ANY boring parts in this book. Some of my other favriote parts of teh series as a whole come from this book as well. The shreiking shack part, the part when Harry is in the Three Broomsticks with Ron and Hermione in his invisibility cloak, and Harry staying at the Leaky Cauldron and freely being able to visit Diagon Alley for those couple of weeks before school started. This book also more than paved the way for the next one, which is something that doesn't seem to happen in the ones before it for some reason. Just a great book!

Favorite- CoS- it was VERY highly academic from a psychological field. It introduced us to Voldemort's past, which is fascinating from the social science perspective.
2. PoA- good atmosphere and setting up Sirius.
3. GoF- Voldey comes back!
4. SS- gave us the first look into this world.
5. Least favorite- OoTP- JKR doesn't know how to write romance, so should stay away from it. She also demonstrated a complete lack of awareness to fan expectations. She had promised fans that we'd learn all about Lily in this book, then seemed to forget about that. It went too slowly and ended poorly. Also, I don't think she was able to properly demonstrate a grieving process since Harry never moved away from the anger stage. He didn't act how I would expect to his father-figure dying in front of him. Sure, going after Bella was okay, him getting angry at Dumbledore was fine...he just never really had a sense of grieving about him in the end, which I found disappointing.

1. PoA, best ending, and we meet the mauraders!!
2. Ootp, liked all the character developments, and the action, and it had the two best chapters of the series, Occlumency and Snape's worst memory.
3. Tie between GoF and Cos. I really liked the action and climaxes of both.
5. PS/SS. Just seems dwarfed by all the other ones, although it does introduce the wizarding world well. compared to all the other ones
fred/george: well we're off to beat some bludgers
harry: Your going to go play quidditch?
fred/george: ...no

3. SS: Very good and easy to relate to since when 1 first started reading HP, I was 11.
4. GoF: It was good but I had way too many story-plot questions that needed answering. I should really try reading it again.
5. CoS: Okay, and better than many other stories, but you would despise it too if you had to read it four times in one year and you never really liked it that much in the first place.
That's mine. And JKR's okay with romance, but I doubt she'll get very far with it. Maybe she should write a little bit more with it to get used to it. You never know what she can pull off. And I hate Lucas, so, please don't compare her with him. Yuck.

I tried to chose one but I can never decide.
I love PS/SS becuase it starts the story and it is so interesting to see how someone acts when they are suddenly transported to a completly oppisiate atmosphere than they are used to.
I love COS because it has such an interesting plot that runs so deep with such a deep hate. And we get to learn a lot of history about the school and Voldemort. Oh and I love all of Harry's doubts about himself and who he is and how everyone is afriad of him.
I love POA because it's got such a complicated plot and I love the way the entire story flips around in one chapter.
I love GOF because it has so much going on in it. You get to learn so much about other wizards in other parts of the country with both the Quidditch World Cup and the Triwizard tournament. And it shows us for the first time how vast the wizarding world is.
I love OOTP because everyone acts completly different tword Harry. He is so rightfully angry at the world and everyone calls him a liar and all. I think that rocks. There is more Snape which is like the BEST part of the books. And for the first time J.K. Introduced a character that I cannot stand no matter how many times I read the book. I mean you get mad at Malfoy and Snape but when you know they aren't going to win it doesn't matter anymore. But that woman is the most insufferable person ever imagened. Plus I loved the way Voldemort was a threat throughout the book rather that just at the end, it was so much more real.
Plus in every book I love the humor and the just life as a wizard parts. And I always get so excited at the "Dumbledore explains it all" parts because it has so much information. I don't know I just love every part of every book. I would write down all the parts I love but it would bore you so for now, they just rock, will have to do.
LOL, Helen you are never going to let go of Sirius' death. You'll never let J.K. live it down, I can just see you making sure it haunts her all the way to the grave.

the book is good, but there is one thing that ruins it for me. the "back in time" thingy.
that's a HUGE loophole in the entire concept.
you see, if back in time is possible, then why:
1. doesn't voldy goes back to not-kill baby harry? maybe you can't go back years. so why didn't he or his followers do it 5 minutes after baby harry almost killed voldy?
2. why didn't Dumby go back in time in book 4 the minute harry returned with cedric's body, and save cedric/kill voldy?
3. use, with your imagination the "back in time" concept in any meaningful part in the series. it's just bad.
you might say "back in time" is illegal. sure. but voldy doesn't obey the law. and neither would the good guys if something bad happens (e.g. cedric's death..)
you might even ask yourself - lets say harry kills voldy in book 7. maybe some wvil dude will go back in time and save him. HEY that's great! we'll have book 8.....
JKR made a HUGE HUGE HUGE mistake with the "back in time" thingy.
that's why i can't say book 3 - PoA - is the best. it creaed a huge logical loophole. shame.

My favorite is close between GoF and OofP but I think i like OofP better because you learn so much and many new characters are introduced. My least favorite is CofS

Response to krep: Your right, that time travel thing could be used to restore a lot of things, but the reason they can't is becuase the Ministry authorizes them and even though Voldemort had a spy in the Ministry, it would look a little suspicious if one of the ministry officials took one without authorizing it right after the fall of Voldemort.

About the time travelling thing, The time turners are really hard to get, Proffeser Mg. said that she pulled a lot of strings to get one. But you are right, the whole time travelling thing really brings alot of questions.

SS- The first couple of times I read it, I loved the entire idea but later on when I began re-reading the rest of the books I found how she changed her style and I began disliking that book, so that's my least favorite now
COS- Really funny and great plot but not the best, I love all the diary stuff and polyjuice potion but not her best
POA- My favorite by far, great plot and great unexpected twist! I love Lupin so much and all that Sirius stuff and overhearing stuff about his father!
GOF- Al though I prefer the plot than POA and the ending I still prefer POA, i like this one right after POA
OoTP- Maybe it's because I waited for 3 years for this book and expected too much of it, that's why I was disappointed, like REALlY disappointed, nothing new happened in it, i get the feeling that if I read 4 then 6 i wouldn't notice that I dropped something in between except the little fact that Siriu's is dead, which by the way is so unfair and not important!

i just started reading harry potter books last year when i turned 11 im 12 now and after ive read them at least twenty times in the past year i still cant choose : they are all so good
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An odd feeling rose in Harry -- an emotion quite differnt from the anger and greif that had filled him since Sirius's death. It was a few moments before he realised that he was feeling sorry for Luna.
"How come people hide your stuff?" he asked her, frowning.
"Oh...well..." She shrugged. "I think they think I'm a bit odd, you know. Some people call me 'Loony' Lovegood actually."
Harry looked at her and the new feeling of pity intensified rather painfully.
"That's no reason for them to take your things," he said flatly. "D'you want help finding them?"

Chamber of Secrets is my favorite, followed by Goblet of Fire. Then Sorcerer's Stone, then Prisoner of Azkaban, and then Order of the Phoenix. I know this makes me the oddball on this list, but there it is!

My Favorite book was GoF. It was close between the 3rd and 4th but I really love everything that happens in the 4th book. Nothing really bad (besides voldy coming back) happens (Cedric needed to die!). I love going back and rereading my fav parts from that book.
My Least favorite was OotP. I Hated it. Harry turns into the biggest Jerk. I have never hated the main character in a book as much as I hated Harry! I think he needs to stop PMSing and think about other people instead of himself!

I loved Goblet of Fire, this was just a head above the rest - although The Half Blood Prince was ace too.
Least favourite has to be The Order of the Phoenix. Just didn't do it for me as much as the rest. Not that it's a bad book....

I like GOF the best; HBP the least. HBP was absolutely necessary for the resolution of the entire serious, but there wasn't a lot of fun. It was very realistic. All the stores boarded up in Diagon Alley, the posters. All that sparkeling magic was just gone because it is serious times. The only really light, funny scenes were the Weasley's joke shop and the love potion bit. The snogging stuff was cute, too, but besides that, I felt this was the transitionary informative book.
I just loved GOF, and I can't put a finger on why. I guess because that is the first real time (besides the summoning of the patronis in book 3) that it is absolutely clear that Harry is a highly skilled wizard.
It's interesting that a lot of people didn't like OOTP. I loved it! I hated what a jerk Harry was, too, but it is so fitting of his age - 15. Isn't almost everyone a pain in the arse at 15? JK really captures the stages of growth in Harry in a very realistic way. Besides, if Harry was totally perfect it would be annoying.
Further, how can he be totally sweet and meek? Its not possible having grown up with the Dursley's. His character is so strong because he fought when it was necessary against the Dursleys rather than just taking their crap and then becoming someone with no self-esteem. It is necessary that Harry's character have a strong sense of self. It is not possible of anyone growing up as he did without have an innate inner strength.
I'm wondering if we all will like book 7 the best......!
