OK, in one of my classes we were deeply studying sex exploitation in media for a few months and it is amazing how much I saw this in POA. I just got home from seeing it for the second time -- eep, I know. My little brother wanted to see it and my mom basically paid me to take him so she could rest.
Anyway, yeah. It's almost embarresing how much Emma is exploited. It's subtle but noticeable, as contradicting as that is. The positioning, especially. How she's always held or positioned with one of the guys protecting her. Most noticeable is when Sirius is riding behind her on Buckbeak and then helped her down/held her hand. Then I kind of questioned other things and it's awful. They kept to the story by making her a stronger/braver female than the average, but then Alfonso (I'm guessing) did the positioning.
Has anyone seen Y Tu Mama Tambien? One girl, two guys, lots of, um, "exploring." It seems as if he took some of that material and tried to incorperate it into the teens of Harry Potter. I didn't mind Ron/Hermione flirting but then the positioning with Harry/Hermione was too much. One or the other, this isn't the time or place for both.
But somebody tell me they've noticed this too and I'm not going crazy...
