So, as the title says this is my first post though I've been reading here for about a month. I was just casually thinking today about the Book 6 title and then thinking about Petunia and Lily. Well, there has been some argument about whether or not Lily and Petunia's family were wizards or muggles and if they were (and I'm not sure that she's older) then their first child being petunia and non-magical would be a severe dissapointment (i.e. neville's grandmother being worried that Neville was non-magical until he fell out of a window or something and saved himself although I could be making that up lol), and then they have Lily and are ecstatic that she is a witch which causes Petunia to hate her and her family and all magical people. Well if we accept it to be true that the Evan's were a wizarding family and Petunia is their daughter then that would make Dudley at most half-blooded wizard assuming that Harry's awful uncle isn't partially wizard himself seeing that he seems to accept wizards a little more than your average muggle and knows more about them than I think what he would gleen from just petunia telling him. For example he knows quite a bit about Hogwarts and he suspects harry of witchcraft even when he knows that Harry doesn't even know himself that he is a wizard. I support that by saying that from uncle vernon's point of view his wife's sister was a witch, but his wife obvioulsy isn't (or is who knwos?), so who's to say that harry actually has powers until he accidently uses them (i.e. escaping from dudley to a rooftop or causing the window in the zoo to dissapear) which neither harry or anyone else accepting vernon seems to recognize as super natural, even before he's had an opportunity to consult with petunia. So to sum that up Vernon is very astute at recognizing witchcraft, very astute especially for someone who has never (?) formally seen witchcraft used before Harry goes to Hogwarts. Anyhow, Dudley, he is at least half blood of a family that has had at least one witch in it, now the question is; do witches spawn randomly from muggle families? And do muggles spawn with the same randomness from wizarding families? If that is the case then by ratio (there being many more muggles than wizards) most witches would be "mudbloods", but if the birth rate of wizards is proportionate to the ammount of magical blood in the veins (for argument let's say hermione's great grandfather was a wizard who married a muggle and she was the only witch of all generation's in her family until present) then that would mean that if Lilies parent only had 2 children and only half fo the two were a witch then they weren't very high blooded magically OR Petunia was a fluke, in which case two scenarios follow involving Dudley. If her parents were magically low blooded then he probably isn't a wizard, but if Petunia was a fluke the the chances of anther fluke happeneing in her child would be very low and he would have magical blood. Also as we've seen intelligence plays a huge roll in magical ability and he's a bit dull always in front of the tv you know. LOL anyway I'm sorry I started rambling. It's just maybe Dudley = Halfblood prince, his mother certainly treats him as one doesn't she?
Thankyou!

I don't think Lily's parents were wizards. It has always been said that Lily is muggle-born and changing that now would be absolutely ridiculous. And if Dudley were a wizard, he would have gotten a letter from Hogwarts when he was eleven.
Thats one I thought too but then I don't see what relevance that could be to the story because unless Dudley has magical powers or something that allows him to got to Hogwarts then he would barely even be in the story. I agree with the whole Dudley/Prince thing. This is all way confusing. Now I have a LOT to think about.

Filch cracked his whip threatingly.
"You know what? said Fred. "I dont think we are. George, I think we've outgrown
full-time education."
"Yeah, I've been feeling that way myself," said George lightly.
"Time to test our talents in the real world, d'you reckon?" asked Fred.
"Definitely," said George.
And before Umbridge could say a word, they raised their wands and said together,
"Accio Brooms!"...
"Give her hell from us, Peeves!"
"I didn't know you could read."

Yeah my post was very confusing, sorry about that. Even though I posted this I got to thinking later about the next movie, Goblet of Fire, and an article I was reading that said that originally it was planned as two movies but they decided to only do one and just cut out the Dursley's completely. If indeed any single one of the Dursley's is extremely important to the final outcome of the stories then I don't think JK would allow such a cut to be made.

No. Lily and Petunia's family is not magical (besides Lily) and I 99.9% doubt Petunia and Dudley are magical, t. It would screw up the entire story. Sorry if I sounded mean.
"The spiders are making me tap dance!" "You tell 'em Ron.""Ya. Okay, I will."

As for Petunia having magical powers, that doesn't sound too unlikely for me. There's been a lot of talking that someone will reveal magical powers in the sixth book. Maybe Petunia didn't want to be a witch? Maybe she got the letter and didn't feel tempted and threw it away? Maybe we'll read something about that in the first chapter of the sixth book, i dunno.
