I have been wondering about this.... after Harry had his 1st vision(about Mr. Weasley) in the 5th book D-dore pulled out a strange instrument. Out came a snake in green smoke and D-dore says "Naturally, Naturally, but in essence divided?" and the snake split itself into two snakes. What does this mean it never clears up what it was.... all I can figure is that the two snakes are Harry and Voldemort and they are together but in essence divided.... I hope this makes since, I really cant figurs this out, if you want to read the whole section it's on pg.470.... Thanks in advance!

this strange silver instrument reminds me of something. it has the slytherin colors, silver and green. and the green smoke is in the image of a snake. so it must have something to do with the fact that harry would be great in slytherin, as the hat said. "you could be great you know, its all here in your head, and slytherin will help you on your way to....." i dont remember the end of that sentence and i dont have a book with me. well anyways it said that. oh yeah, i just thought of something. the "its all here in your head" could have more to do with it then anything. i think really its showing whats in harry's mind. he has voldemort and himself in there, evil and good. they are in the same body, but they are not the same. essence means quality in abundance, or alot of one thing. the thing is harry has two things inside him like i said, so that could explain the whole thing, its just a guess. i know, i may not of even described it right, but like everyone else im just guessing.

the end of the sentence is "greatness"

perhaps, the first snake was Nagini, but in essance divided, it was voldemort inside Nagini's mind...

Perhaps, maybe it has no purpose other than being one of Dumbledore's many "instruments".

I think the instrument showed the connection between Harry And Voldemort.they are connected...but they r in essence divided because they r 2 separate people...thats how i interpreted that partof the book

Thats what I thought, about Harry and Voldy, but maybe there is something deeper there....or maybe I am just overthinking....lol
