I saw this rumour on another Harry Potter site and found it interesting:
Aunt Petunia will reveal that the reason she had a grudge against Lily was because her magical connections caused the death of their parents by Voldemort and his Death eaters going after them.

I think i like that a lot better than saying Petunia is a squib....

Actually I think that is a bit mroe likely then Petunia being a squib. I liked the idea of her being a squib, but I like this one idea a bit more. I bet this "rumor" was nothing more then someone's idea posted as fact, but I still like it.
Petunia often goes off on that rant about how proud the parents were that they had a witch in the family. The grudge goes way back to childhood when the parents were alive.

This is another rumour about Petunia that I saw on a Harry Potter site:
The reason Petunia Dursley may hate her dead sister, Lily is that she (Petunia) was born a squib and was jealous of Lily for being so magical. This may also be the reason that she hates Harry. She also seems scared when Harry mentions the dementors in book 5, so maybe she has seen one as squibs can see dementors.

Maybe its a bit of booth rumors like this: She was born a squib/jelaous of lilys magical powers and the part about her parents dieing cuz of her sisters magical connections with voldy.Maybe.

I'm sure a LOT of things contribute. So, I don't think anyone is completely wrong here... they are just not completely right. Besides, in the scheme of things, who bloody cares!!!
There are more important things in Harry Potter to set your minds too than this. Isn't there? LOL

A squib is someone born from a witch and a wizard with no powers...Lilly is her sister...Lilly is called in OOTP a mudblood by snape meaning her parents are muggle...therefore petunia is not a squib...

that's not exactly true, JKR may be spreading rumors. After all, Green Flame Torch has been patented, and yet JKR let the rumors spiral for months before telling us that it was not the title
