In all of the books there was never mentioned on james potter family line. All we know that is that he was a pure-blood. I think that it could be a possibility that james could be great great grandson of godric gryffindor. In the second book dumbledore says that a true gryffindor could only pull the sword out of the sorting hat. Voldemort and harry have more similarities and maybe that might be another reason why voldemort thought him to be his eqaul. That also explains why gryffindor and slytherin are enimes and share the same similiarties of voldemort and harry.

Gryffindor & Slytherin ... Harry's Father

That makes a tremendous amount of sense!

I do think it is very interesting that we haven't had a Potter family history. And what a mundane name for a pure-blood wizarding family. Potter certainly is boring when compared with most wizard names.

Also, we don't know all that much about James himself. All the evidence seems to indicate that Lily was brilliant and a really good person, but despite the fact that everyone says good things about James, Snape's memory and some comments from Lupin and Sirius indicate that James (at least in school) wasn't so great. Just wondering what he was really like.

PS Do we know what house Dumbledore was in? Did he even attend Hogwarts?

Dumbledore was in Gryffindor...And like Remus and Sirius told Harry in OoTP, James was just 15 and stupid. He came back to earth after another year or two of rejection from Lily.

Take it from someone who knows-fifteen year old boys are idiots. I think it is some chemical in their blood. They will grow out of it, just like James did. Besides, he was just trying to be cool and impress a girl. JKR said herself that Harry isnt the heir of Gryfinndor and also that Harrys parents were ordinary parents who had a kid when they were on the old side and they died from an ordinary wizarding disease.

"You too are about to learn what happens to wrongdoing at my school."
Filch cracked his whip threatingly.
"You know what? said Fred. "I dont think we are. George, I think we've outgrown
full-time education."
"Yeah, I've been feeling that way myself," said George lightly.
"Time to test our talents in the real world, d'you reckon?" asked Fred.
"Definitely," said George.
And before Umbridge could say a word, they raised their wands and said together,
"Accio Brooms!"...

"Give her hell from us, Peeves!"

"I didn't know you could read."
Draco from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

"The spiders...The spiders are making me tap dance..." "You tell those spiders, Ron" "Ya, ya, okay, I will." :-D tee hee

"When did she get here? Did you see her come in?" HILARIOUS!!...poor Ron. ;-D

If Harry Potter is a descendant from Godric Gryffindor & the Potters are pure-bloods??? How does he end up with Potter last name?

it is questionable how Harry ended up with the last name Potter, but it is also a question how the Gaunts ended up with their last name, when they were direct descendants of Slytherin? perhaps another link between HP and Voldy?
