Response to Breguet Aeronavale XX

Hi Mike,

You'll get varied opinions on the advantages and disadvantages of using a watch winder, even from very knowledgeable folks. Some folks favor the idea that the oils will last longer if they are kept moving, but others argue that the extra wear on the movement and the automatic system and barrel in particular counteract any potential gains as far as the longevity of the movement is concerned.

The movement in the Type XX is a rugged Lemania workhorse and does not need to be babied, but it will need regular service regardless of whether or not you use a winder. My personal feelings are that as long as it runs every few weeks or so it, the oils will remain relatively fresh and the movement will last longer without the continual wear and tear of a winder.
