You're right that there aren't much Chinese Soldiers figures around.
Dragon released a set of 4 Modern Chinese Soldiers (Hong Kong Garrison) out a few years ago, they are four poses with Assault rifle, Squad Mahine Gun etc. All are in the current "Type 97" uniform worn by the PLA.
