There is a case before the Supreme Court, brought my a mother whose mainstreamed special needs son was humiliated by the practice of having children grade each others' homework and reading the grades aloud.
"Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia noted that the child received speech therapy "only" 45 minutes per week and accused (the mom's lawyer) of exaggerating the child's disability.
"He was slow at reading," (the mom's lawyer) replied.
"Well, how does speech therapy help that?" Scalia added. "What does he have - a stutter?"... I suggest you not paint your client as more sympathetic than he is."
Anyone care to enlighten Justic Scalia about communication disorders?
Andrea (my daughter gets 2.5 hours a speech a week and DOESN'T stutter). | |
