You see, in special ed. testing is very limited. For
a child w autism esp like my son, okay...you teach him
5 words and their spelling day after day the same thing!
He will memorize those spelling words well. Then you turn around and test him! He will get 100%! Big deal.
Just mark it as his performance as 100% in spelling words inside the class room. The same words, you use them from news paper or magazines and ask him to read it at home to test him, then you will see the difference. I once took him by the "milk isle" in grocery stores and asked by son what does it say? (IT SAID MILK!) He did ot even recognize that word MILK!
He said something nonsense!
I believe the teaching for a child w autism has to occur in natrual setting, inclusive, in communities and in homes. Not in a self contained class room where he copies only the maladaptive behaviors from other disabled kids! That is just a waste of special ed. time. Again just opinion and experience w my son only.
