In a thread below, I wrote about how my daughter's school spec ed people said that she no longer needs an IEP - only her "speech therapy IEP". I've written a letter to the school, cc'ed it to the SD. We'll have a meeting after the holidays. Here's the controversy part. I'm thinking of telling them to skip the speech therapy all together. They only give her an hour a week. And I'd be suprized if she's actually going at that rate. The speech therapist, at the last meeting - didn't even know my daughter has expressive language now. My daughter doesn't know the speech therapist well enough to speak with her. She just echoes what the speech therapist says to her. My daughter's speech continues to improve (did all through the summer months as well). She still needs a lot of work but we work on it at home (last year's speech pathologist was terrific & gave us a lot of materials). So I want to tell them they can keep their speech services (and shove them.....). We don't want them.
Some of you may think I should fight for more speech time (wish me a lot of luck while you're at it! BTW, I questions the SP's competency). Some of you may think I should hang on to all the services I can. Anyone have any arguments? | |
