It does matter a lot for kids w autism. Because kids w autism can pick up some normal age appropriate things that a kid of his age does, yet remain way below normal in certain other skills.
Whatever he can pick up, that would be fine as long as they remain socially acceptable. My son was only three, when he visually watched his cousind and big sister playing Nintendo games. He played right after they left, all by himself and beat them! No one ever taught him how to play or start the games etc. The same thing w VCR operative procedures or getting his favorite video (Barney tapes by label, even though he can't even read when he was just a toddler) or imitating good behaviors by mere observations.
He had come a long way w severe autism. If the Sd can't maintain him in a regular class room, I intend to pull him out and sue them left and right! I am like
