Did you know that the Inca revered autistics. epileptics too. If you had been a parent then, you would have had considerable status from having an autistic child. Its all relative. I cant see that genetically altering people on a whim of society can be justified although I certainly understand that society has come to make being the parent of a person on spectrum, or being on spectrum yourself, intolerably difficult. Its a construct though. Autism in itself is not the problem. The problem is that modern society has distorted values. By genetic manipulation, those values are confirmed and entrenched further. Instead of eliminating autism, society has the obligation acknowledge that it is special and support it.

I have not been able to find evidence of people with Aspergers having status as a group at any time. Individual, yes but often after a terrible time of suffering. Perhaps the monasteries and nunneries would be the nearest thing to status for Aspergers as a group.
