Andrew, I think you are right, it is not good

This morning I got a new error message. It said "An I/O operation initiated by the Registry failed unrecoverably. The Registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the system image of Registry". Also got another one that said it was missing the virus file. That doesn'r sound good at all. Merlin, Not exactly sure what OS is but I have Windows 98, the updated version.
