Response to major meltdown |
| was quite disasterous.
the superintendent of education was not very nice.
the principal started off showing how son "flops himself down" on a chair in music class and "announces" "IM HERE NOW!".
principals words (have the whole meeting recorded) "That type of behaviour IS against the MINISTRY OF EDUCATION code of conduct for students, and is reason for suspension, we are being VERY lenient for not suspending him each time he shows such disprespect" (holy shit. floppping yourself on a chair and stating loudly you are here now is AGAINST to government rules for conduct??!!??)
she went on and on.
when finally started to address the issues with the teacher.
the superintendent got very loud and said "YOU have changed this meeting into something other then what it is supposed to be, you are now making allegations against a teacher WE have hired, and I must now start a formal investigation, and this meeting comes to an END HERE and MUST turn off that tape recorder" she flipped.
then one of the other women who came, tried to talk to her.
then told her "i am not bringing up this issues, it is you that stated at the beginning of the meeting that you unerstood that i had concerns about mr. foucault, i am only clarifying that my issues ar enot wether he is capable of teaching the course material (because she twisted mine words from all the letters that had sent to mean that was concerned about his ability to teach the course content) but rather that mine concerns are with his behaviour"
so as the time went on... she also mentions that "i understand you have concerns about your sons classroom placement, and wonder wether it is the proper placement".
told her that was not the case.
told her he needs supports, and his IEP needs to have those supports in place.
she said "we ONLY provide LITERACY, AND NUMERACY support in our IEP's" apparently, anything else, behaviour, breaks, accomodiations, etc. etc. are NOT going to be put in IEP UNLESS the child is placed outside of the regular classroom.
THEY DO NOT DO INTEGRATION.
so they are going to consider for next yr if mine son will be placed in one of the following classes....
'behaviuoral modification classroom" which is located in a YOUNG OFFENDERS facility 50KM away... apparently it is the only place wher ethere is such a classroom.. infact the whole school there is like that... a behaviour mod. approach... and it is the place where all children even outisde of the secure custody young offenders facility will be going there if they need supports for their behaviours....
NO WAY IS MINE SON GOING THERE!!!!!!! he WILL become a young offender after going ther... that is insane...
so the other option is that we are needign to do another assessment and if his "level of functioning is low enough" then he will be placed in a school which has a seperte classroom for children with intellectual disabilities, low-moderately functioning autism etc.
this is a boy who has a listening comprehension of grade 12.8 butdoes not qualify for a gifted program for some reason, and may end up placed there, if he "qualifies" for it... or the behaviour class... unless ofcourse he has no more troubles at school.
they woudlnt even agree to do simple prompting for him...
nothing for transitions... they said they didnt have the resources for that....
they asked "why?"
then said "well if he is that low functioning then maybe he does not belong in this clasroom".
he has never been in any other clasroom, only in regular classrooms...
infact in the past he nver had IEP even...
it only became into effect in Feb of this yr.
although there has been a fight to get him one since grade 3.
finally when he gets it... they wont implement the supports that are there... nor are they permitting for a single addition to his IEP. they said that if he needs that stuff, he is not in the correct classroom placement...
so even they said he will be pulled out of gym for resource.
and that when the resource room teacher comes to pull him out.
she will not be required to give him transitino time.
he will flip the first time this happens.
but he may not have a chance to flip.
he is again suspended. from the bus this time.
firday.
they were in music class. there was dancing.
they were supposed to dance the macarena.
he didnt do it.
he danced something else.
he was therefore kicked off the classtrip to go to another town, to a indoor pool to go swimming...
so he was starting to have his meltdown... got upset ont eh bus..
and when wrote that "major meltdown" post that is what it was all abaout.
so today the school called andleft a message, saying that they have suspended him from the bus for 3 days.
they know we dont have a car. so they have the nerve to send a message like this: "your son is NOT suspended from school, and therefore it is your responsibility to make sure he attends school and you provide him with the transportation"
HAHAHA!!! how the hell is that going to happen?
so he will keep missing days.
will not meet the attendance requirement to pass him his grade...
at the meeting, asked them, "is he going to pass this year"
(since he has never failed, never been close to failing) the principal says "well, you see, IF they are placed in THOSE special classrooms, they cannot be failed, we must pass them onward yearly"
SO WHAT DOES THAT MEAN???
that she IS going to fail mine son?
since he is not in 'one of those special classrooms"
for gods sake.
this school nightmare has goten worse and worse.
IF they fail him, or send him to the behvioural classroom (cant see him qualifying for the other one, since he functions at such a high level) am going to keep him at home to be schooled wether he wants to or not.. am NOT SENDING HIM to a behavioural classroom in a young offenders facility...
am too upset to think anymore.
this took almost a week after the meeting to be able to even write about it.
