Hi all. I told you I would update everyone on Emily's vision therapy progress. We just finished our second "session" - a session is 12 therapy sessions, one session on doing homework and one evaluation with the doctor.
Before we started, the doctor said Emily was "shutting down" her right eye. One bit of evidence was a test where she wears 3-D glasses and sees nine sets of four circles. She is supposed to identify the circle that "pops out." At first she could do only 6 of the 9. Yesterday she did all 9.
They said her tracking is very good now too (it wasn't too bad to start with) and her ability to attend is much better (we'll see when school starts). They are going to work on her ability to keep her eyes turned inward for close work like reading (they tend to drift outward, though are improved).
Whether these gains translate into real life remains to be seen...
Originally they said we'd have to do 5 sessions - now she's ahead of schedule and they think we can finish in 4. At $756 a session out of pocket, that's good news.
Emily is turning 8 on Sunday. She got an American Girl doll which I gave her last night. She loves it! She also lost her front tooth last night, so it's a big time. She also got her Swim Patch by swimming 25 yards across the pool. It's been a good summer!
