hey, let him say itby mennonite (no login)yeah, i know it's lower than low, and insulting, but mac wasn't a sentimental guy. he was progressive, and thought people should be good to each other, but like most people he didn't always live up to his own rules. most good people are like that, they set high standards that no one can easily live up to, then they don't live up to them. but the high standards means they do turn out to be pretty awesome people. mac was like that. but he was also REALLY insulting and arrogant sometimes. yeah, i'm not saying i'm better than him. i'm saying he pissed off a number of people by just being rude for no reason. mac's from the old school. he was a pioneer. he was a genius. but every once in a while, pioneers and people from the old school act like they own everything, like they know everything, and treat someone else like crap. i'm pretty sure everyone on this forum has done something like that at least once, like just today, when michael said: "*who taught you to spell?" mac said things like that to a lot of people that didn't deserve it. so, if someone wants to pick now to be a jerk about it, just leave it. after all, there aren't many people (no one i've ever met) less sentimental than mac was. you can't hurt him, and one troll (or whatever the right word is,) isn't going to destroy his legacy. suppose something happens to me, right? there's gonna be lots more of this than there was with mac. if there are even a few people that remember me as well as mac someday... well, anyway. if i'm survived by a few people that want to say one last "eff you," it won't make any real difference. some people are entitled. but a "noob?" lol... whatever. and yeah, i liked mac. it's a pity that he was different on the forums, because these people that don't like him would never be pissed off at the guy in person, who was lots more mellow and impossible not to like. but even knowing that, he pissed me off on the forums all the time, for the way he treated noobs. so i didn't get to really say goodbye on good terms. i'm not the only person (from n54) that argued with mac when he went too far. sometimes he did. different people remember him differently. most of us will do him the service of either remembering what was good about him (5 tons of it) or giving him the benefit of the doubt. that's the proper thing to do. but that's just how we feel about him. we're entitled to like him, too. i would say it won't be the same without mac, but it wouldn't be the same, because things don't stay the same. i will say hypothetically, that if this is the best forum ever, that it's because he got it moving in that direction, a very long time ago. he pushed it in one direction and another. sometimes he made it better. sometimes he made it worse. i think we've all done that sometimes. mac's not done moving the forum along. his memory has pushed us to take the good we knew, to apply it to ourselves, and to try to make the most of it. i doubt we'd have put this much effort into it otherwise. so we'll give him lots of credit where due. it's due. don't worry, he'll be remembered accordingly, as a pioneer, a progressive, the second founder of the forum, and if we're lucky the guy that chose the third founder. one post won't change that. two posts won't change that. posts don't change the truth, where there are honest people who speak aloud. mac certainly was known to speak his mind. he also practiced trying to be quiet. no man is one thing, but yeah... mac was really good. we'll know that, his family knows that, and maybe someday zip will know that. |
