I just read thebob's post, I assume I misunderstood what you wanted. Here is another one.
I say this doesn't exactly look like smoke, but I'll leave it up to you to play around with the coordinates and produce the desired effects.
I actually just though of an idea to draw a spiral without any trigonomentry, but it is a little big, so I'll plan it out on paper and see if I can get it in QBasic. Give me some time on this idea though, cause I'm trying to rotate things in 3d at the moment.
