I can show you a routine that uses INKEY$ and gives the user complete control of backspacing, overwriting, cursor control, input control, and yes, automatically will input the year when the 4th digit is pressed. My concern is how much QBasic you know. If you have some experience, you should be able to convert it to use in your program. If not, even though it will work bu itself, you might not understand it enough to use it in your program.
Also, what do you need this routine for, a school assignment?
