OK, let's settle this with a quick quiz. FB should only be used with...by (Login The-Universe)
A} An "a"
B) An "an"
C) A condom
D) Both B and C
E) All of the above
OK, everybody here knows I'd pick D, but then I've never been "an" FB fan, but I might have been "a" Free Basic fan, if FB was more like QB64 and followed a 100% QBasic compatible philosophy from the start.
OK Sai, see the difference? I know we don't always read all the threads, but I was poking some fun at Clippy using "a" with FB, not Free Basic, when he should have used "an" with FB in his sentence.
Proper use of "a" and "an" reference:
A lot of people think the rule is to use "an" if the word behind it starts with a vowel. The actual rule of thumb is not if it starts with a vowel, but if it makes a long or short vowel sound. The "F" in FB (hee, hee, hee, that never gets old) makes a short vowel sound, and therefore needs an "an" in front of it, instead of an a. Free Basic, however, does not start with a vowel, nor does it make a long or short vowel sound; so, Free Basic only needs a condom over it. OK, just kidding.
Although I never liked the way FB was developed, I actually can appreciate a few of the things it was developed for; to compile Basic code, for one, and it does run that compiled code faster than Quick Basic. I think the speed improvement made it great for gamers, but I also think it became more and more like a "C" language, as it was developed, rather than a BASIC language. So I think FB is great for gamers, in that it is faster than Quick Basic and it certainly has a following of users who appreciate that fact, but I'm not among them. I found for the way I program, mostly all SCREEN 0 apps, Power Basic was much more compatible and I believe QB64, when completed, will be the best of the bunch for overall QB compatibility and will offer enough increase in speed to meet the needs of gamers, too. Time will tell.
