Re: Shouldn't be a problem.by Ralph (no login)Well, I tried this: 1. Created a folder, TheBob's Tutorials, downloaded the .zip file there, and ran Tutor.bas by double clicking, and got the error message on line 93. After rereading your post carefully, I copied all my QuickBASIC files to TheBob's Tutorial/TheBobTutor.zip, double clicked on the file, Tutor.bas, and ran it...same error message on line 93. Well, now, I opened QuickBASIC (qb.exe) from inside TheBobTutor.zip folder, opened Tutor.bas from within the running qb.exe, and ran it...IT RAN! Now, how is a beginner to know how to do the above? I didn't understand that doublecliking Tutor.bas opened qb.exe in my normal folder, C:/BASIC/QB, and loaded Tutor.bas which, when running, tries to find the files ON THE SAME QB FOLDER, where it fails and brings up the error message I reported. I know, a mere beginner, a 12-year old in the sixth grade, is SUPPOSED to know how to do all that! And, if he doesn't, he's got his classmates to help him out. Of course! But, in my case, I am an 82-year old stay-at-home retiree, and didn't understand all the above before. And, when I don't understand how to do something. it becomes very difficult for me. Now, I have finally understood, and finally got it to run. In conclusion, perhaps, alongside the link, it would be helpful to list the necessary steps to run the program successfully, so that a beginner would have a clear way of succeeding in his endevor quickly, without having to waste time trying this and trying that, just banging his head against a wall! I guess the most difficult thing to do is to get oneself down to a beginner's low level, instead of thinking that we all know how to do things automatically, since birth! At least I always have to study to learn, as long as there are instructions on what I am trying to learn... But, thank you for replying, because, through it, I finally saw the light! Thanks again. By the way, the tutorial looks nice. It will now take me some time to study it...probably weeks or months. Yes, you guessed it, I'm pretty dense and slow at learning. |
