SOUTH GARLAND HS MESSAGE BOARD

pray for me

by Tracy Rodden

I just wanted to reach out and ask anyone and everyone to pray for me. I am going to have hip replacement surgery April 24. Soooooooooo we have a week to pray that it is successful. I am sooooooo sick of pain I could die but I am enduring it instead! Maybe I will be just fine by the time the reunion is here I will be able to be there if not Randy will be. Thanks and love to all.

I know you will love having your life back.

by

My wife, Catherine, suffered from arthritic degeneration of both hips to the point that she was only mobile with the aid of a walker or wheelchair for two years. She also endured the constant pain that you know far too well.

She has now had both hip joints replaced and is completely rejuvinated. Shortly after she had finished rehab on the second surgery she was in the kitchen and suddenly looked around and just beamed a huge smile. She said with excitement, "I'm in my kitchen moving around and cooking and I don't hurt and I don't even need a cane!". That moment alone made the surgery worthwile. You can imagine how much she appreciates regaining her freedom.

I'm sure you will soon be up and about with the pain moving from burden to memory. If you would like to correspond with someone who has been through the procedure and recovery (twice) just let me know and I will send you Catherine's email address.

All the Best,

Johnson

REUNION UPDATE: GOOD NEWS

by

I received an email from Bob North last nite stating that we have the Elks Lodge for June 23. Steve Nichols ( of the Blue Moon Band) was able to get the booking done for us. "Once in a Blue Moon" will be playing for us for sure. The really good news is He got it for no cost! So we really need to be sure to get a good turn out and stuff that TIP JAR for the band!

Now we can proceed with getting the word out. I am still In Wyoming, but I will be home next Tuesday. Jo and I will host the meeting to further coordinate the REUNION. We welcome input on which nite will be good for those involved, and we encourage EVERYONE to get involved.

We will have the facility, inside and out, from noon till midnite on June 23,2007.

Special thanks to Bob and Steve. Well Done!

We definitely should have Randy and Ken's band play too since it's their class also. We could setup like we did for Troy Nunnery's benefit. We all had a lot of fun that night. Gatewood told me that N. Brown might play some acoustic music. It will be nice to see everyone!!

Reunion: Great news

by

Good work guys getting the date pinned down and getting the place - all damn day to our own damn selves. Now we start making calls to everyone with whom we still maintain contact with instructions to make calls to everyone with whom they still maintain contact, etc and pretty soon we have contacted everyone that wants to be (and maybe some who don't). But everyone gets a call/email.
Question about $. Will there be a cover charge or simply a tip jar for the band(s)? What about food and beverage - available only through the Elks or otherwise?
I have already talked to Mike Young and Stormy Sims* (both of whom plan to attend) and have calls into Rick Cook and Rick Roeger. And I will contact anyone/everyone else - just provide contact info and I will do the rest.

*They are going to reach out to several others, ie Mike Keys, Glenn Spivey, Andy Ditterline

I can keep a list of who has been contacted and who is coming/not coming if everyone will let me know once they make contact. Or if someone else with better computer/organizational skills wants to take on that role, that works for me too.

Let's get busy.

Payback......make reparations

by Fugg Dupp

I aint no "ho" and aint knappy-headed...didnt win no nat'l champeenship neether......but I think I'm entitled to some money in this thang too. Instead of taking a man's income away just because he hurt somebody's poor itty-bitty feelings and they'll be SCARRED FOR LIFE...I think we should let him (Imus) keep his job and give us his paychecks......forever !!! That way, we keep getting money for our hurts and way into the next major bashing we take. That way we'll be less scarred....just ask Rodney King. Imus can never accomplish the "sorry enuff" stage. Money makes all this horrible-horrible damage go away. I feel better already about this mess.

By the way.....we dont have to worry bout Rev Jesse Jackson............those boys at Duke got an education they hadnt paid for.............and the good ole Rev is gonna give a scholarship to the knappy headed ho that started that mess...........makes a looser proud.

Reunion

by Susan

Karen (Johnson) Cameron and I are willing to help out (see previous postings) if everyone is still interested in doing a reunion.

I still think to get a "full" reunion, we need to advertise by newspaper... or if this is just for a selected few.. well, we really need to know.

So??? What's the plan... anything???

OK..HERE GOES !!

by

I've been setting back and waiting for someone to take charge, and well, it looks like it's me like it or not.

Bob North: I know you are an active member of the GELKs, so if you would, get in contact with them and check on availability for the Lodge for June 16 or the 23rd. I feel like if we schedule beyond that, it will be just too darn HOT!. That SHOULD give Marshall and other out-of-staters enough time to schedule for travel, hopefully. We need to get the date established ASAP, so we can start contacting our mates with a confirmed date. Also, check if we can set up a marguerita machine outside, but this is optional. We can possibly supply water and soft drinks with the understanding that beyond that it is BYOB. It should be understood that this a "family" gig, and our social behaviours should reflect that fact.

Susan: It looks like you will be the best source for food. Realistically, I think we should plan for no more than 250-300 people. I think hamburgers and hotdogs, beans, potato salad and maybe even garden salad with dressing(s) will be the best ticket. Other ideas are of course welcome for consideration. I don't care, and I'm just giving my ideas. I will volunteer to pay for the food and do the cooking, with the help of any other volunteer(s). Jim Gatewood has already volunteered to help out with the cooking, and I'm volunteering BIGL. We can ask for donations (the infamous tip jar will do fine) to help with the cost of everything, AND I'll cover the difference, if any.

Kevin Kirk/Randy Rodden/Neel Brown: Contact each other and ya'll can be the Ambassadors of Entertainment if you will. I think Neel and Randy have already volunteered to donate their talents to this effort. We can do the same thing with the Tip Jar, so nobody has to work for free (maybe!).

Karen Cameron: You can coordinate with Susan and help out with that and/or help out with putting together a "Contact Team" to get the word out,i.e., emailing and newspaper posting, etc. If everyone interested will get involved with contacting the mates each has contact with, then we can pull this off more easily with a joint effort approach, utilizing "word of mouth".

Anyone else who wants to volunteer with any aspect of this effort can contact myself or JO, and we can get you lined out to help. JO's email is jamagee@tx.rr.com and our phone number is 972-235-0997. You can clik on my email link on this posting to send me a message.

I think that will cover it for the time-being. Please give your input on this and the name of the game is "INVOLVEMENT" at this stage.

Now, let's git-r-dun!!

Hey...Bob North

by

Bob, let's see, June in Texas - yep, it will be hot. Understanding completely that no date will work for everyone who wants to be there, I do hope the 23rd turns out to be the best date for our little barn dance and bbq for alas, I will be out of country on the 16th and unable to attend. Regardless, I will help get out the word as soon as you get the date pinned down.

Jeffro, you are indeed, still da man. God bless you.

July 14 or July 21 could be dates to consider also, if you want me to do the cookin, that is!
Let's try for June 23. You're absolutely correct, Marshall. No matter which date you choose, there will be a conflict for someone, but you have been adamant all along about having a reunion, so it would be a shame if you missed it. Also, if Bob can't get on the stick, someone else is welcome to negotiate the date. Volunteerism is extremely recommended and necessary. Also Nag, are we talking Greensheet here or what? haha

You are indeed the Man, Jeffro. Susan, shoot me an email and we can get started with our little piece of the event. I say every body get your sunhats, sun block, flip-flops and sun attire ready and let's go! Simple is the key. A suggestion - let's make a list of items - food, cups, paper plates, etc. Jeffro you are very generous but I bet others will want to contribute as well. I seem to remember an old church potluck trick of assigning who brings what alphabetically by last name. A-D Paper products, E-H condiments, etc. You get the picture. As Jeffro said, just a suggestion.

Yes!

Hey Jo, I have been back in town since October 1st.

My cell phone number is 214-926-2331. I work Tuesdays thru Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. but I am available for any assistance on Sunday and Monday ALL day long. You can, of course, call my cell anytime and leave a message and I will get back to you ASAP!

Jeff... do you really feel that we will contact 250 to 300 people? I kinda need to know for definite amounts to order, but then whoever will be keeping track of RSVPs should know the true numbers closer in to the date planned. That's a way down the road... but getting everything you mentioned will not be a problem at all at what ever date and time is planned.

Karen - I will send you my email address and other necessary contact information tonight.

Vicki Wise... please try to come, it would be great to see you and Gary!!

I'm excited, I hope y'all are too.

Thanks Colonel for taking charge... and I agree with Karen - we'll figure out a way to get everything covered so that it doesn't drain any one person's bank account.

Reunion--Once in a Blue Moon

by Kevin Kirk

Hey Everyone,
A few months ago we were at Jeff and Jo's talking about the reunion. We definitely will play if you all want us. We discussed this with everyone, having our band play along with Randy and Ken's band. My good buddy Jim Gatewood mentioned something about Neel Brown playing some acoustic music. I know Steve Ince and Steve Nichols would really like to play since they graduated in 72. I'm just a young pup from 73 but I'd enjoy it also. I hope all is well with everyone. God Bless you all!!

thoughts

by jeffro

I'm not sure if you really wanna hear my thoughts on this matter, but here goes. I think we must first reflect on the previous reunion, the 30th. The reunion committee got together, and as time went on more people got involved. With the combined efforts of everyone involved, we managed to put together the reunion. This effort took quite a few months of diligence and time and hard work.
At the end of the day however, people were mainly bitching about paying for parking, the food wasn't up to par, and even the facility was criticized and the bar. I guess I am just gullible and nieve. I always thought it was mainly about the people and getting together to enjoy each other's company. Silly me! It just seems nothing is ever good enough for a lot of folks.
Now, here we are, talking about a 35th year reunion and there just doesn't seem to be much positive response toward that goal. Am I just missing the boat again, or what's up? Do that many people actually look on the forum for updates? Or is the forum being abandoned due to all the nonsensical anonymous postings which occur on it? Is there REALLY any interest among our classmates from so long ago to get together again? I just don't know.
My personal belief is that it really doesn't matter WHERE we would have a gathering, but moreso WHO would want to intend. Therein lies the true dilemma. Remember when Jo and I made the effort to have a party, in an attempt to gather as many folks together and try to drum up some discussion for having or not having another reunion? We explicity called out to the past members of the committee to attend. We had a super turnout, and everyone seemed to have a great time, but who were the no-shows? The reunion committee members, that's who. I talked to Jimmy Gatewood, and at least he had a fairly good suggestion: Pick a date at the Gelk's, inlist 2 or 3 bands to play, have an outdoor cookout, try to get the word out, and whoever shows will make it happen. That's the best suggestion I've heard so far. Again, I believe it's about the people, so we could have a mini-Woodstock out in a pasture somewhere as far as I'm concerned. It's about LOVE, MUSIC, PEOPLE and breakfast for 300,000 (or less)!! I say, "Come on and git u sum"!! PUT UP OR SHUT UP. And that's all I have to say on it......Love, Jeffro

But it did turn out to be a dang good feed......as Nag called it ...the Big Chill thang. As Jimmy Gotwood said...Gelks is fine for all purposes. But there will be no video of this event unless it includes Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson. That's my story and I'm gonna stick to it til I change my mind !!

So Jeffro when you get home tomorrow, why don't you get w/ Randy and see when they could play and when the Elks is available and then we'll pick a date. I will be glad to send out cards and/or email to all those we can find as well as post on this forum. I think word of mouth will spread pretty quickly. It will be easy, informal and no big deposit required so no one will be out any money ahead. I'll be glad to take the lead on food - see if Karen wants to cater, or just have a big cook out. Either way. Let's do it.

It might also help if...

by Susan

Maybe someone would post it in the newspaper... Dallas and/or Garland... a small ad, nothing too fancy or big.

A lot of past classmates I've met over the years did not even know that this website existed, so to have a "real" reunion for the class of 72 it needs to reach public view.

Just a thought...

Jo - I'm in to help with the food. Maybe we could make it a giant potluck. If several of us pooled resources we could go to Costco for meat and then sweet talk Jeffro & Big L into manning the grills. I second the thought that it is about the people not the place. I rarely check the website any more because it takes too long to wade through all the goofy stuff. Glad I took a minute to see what was going on. Let me know. I have a little time on my hands right now so could do some of the emailing, etc.

Re: RE: ok then

Hi Karen

I work at a foodservice company here in Garland. I can get whatever food we need at a discount... although we might want to compare the employee discount to Costco or Sam's...

But whatever... the company I work for services every kind of eating establishment there is.. schools, hospitals, fast food restaurants, hotels, diner/cafes and even Upscale restaurants. So anything you get in any of these places we could get from where I work. Hamburger meat, hot dogs, steaks, chicken, hams, ribs, briskets... you name it we've got it! We even sell fresh produce like pre-cut salads, sliced or diced onions, melons, grapes, apples... and of course french fries, or potatoes for baking, potato chips, or even pre-made potato salads, macaroni salads etc.

Heck, if we wanted to do something really simple... we could get pans of frozen lasagna, bags of precut salads and garlic bread and use the lodge's (Elks Lodge) ovens - make it a "Bring Your Own Dressing" or supply a gallon of the usual ... 1,000 Island, French and Ranch. And geez, have Cheesecake for dessert, or fresh fruit. We have it all where I work.

I was wondering if we were going to hear anymore on this subject... I am willing to help out however I can, but no one seemed interested.

Reunion

by

I am glad to see this gaining some traction. Like KK, I did not get to have much of a conversation with a lot of folks at the 30th. And since I left Tex in 1978, don't have much regular opportunity to see more than a handful of my closest buds from HS, and would appreciate the opportunity to make amends. Thi is why I took up the drumbeat several months ago.
I am willing to offer whatever help I can, $ or otherwise, taking into account that I am a long way from 'home'.
In reference to Jo's original OK Then post, Jeffro, I would suggest a summer date far enough out to allow for some travel planning for those of us who will need to travel, and once you've picked one, let's everyone contact everyone we know with the particulars. If we are all only seven degrees of seperation away from anyone else, we should be able to reach all of our classmates (even those who have purposefully gone underground)with a moderate amount of effort. If everyone would just contact those people with whom you still keep in contact, and they all do the same thing, pretty soon, we'll all have been contacted two or three times. Some folks will have conficts and not be able to attend, for the others who choose not to attend, so be it.
No one should have to do this by themselves. Some pretty big movements have started with a single voice. If everyone who missed the 30th join forces with those of us who came and had the most fun we've ever had - with our clothes on, this could be really special.

I attended my first reunion, our 30th. I really had alot of fun seeing folks I hadn't seen in 30 years, catching up on old/new times. Some of you traveled quite a long distance to get there too. I missed seeing some of you though and it would be nice to try again.
I never needed anything fancy, it wasn't the place I came to see, it was you folks. Some good music, good food, good times - the simple things in life, that always got me going! I'd be interested in another get-together. Maybe this time some of you folks who couldn't make the 30th would try a little harder. I'm in and looking forward to it!

TALES FROM THE SNOW CAVE: sound familiar?

by jeffro

A woman enroled in nursing school is attending an anatomy class. The subject of the day is involuntary muscles. The instructor, hoping to perk up the students a bit, asks the woman if she knows what her asshole does when she has an orgasm.

"Sure!" she says, "He's at home taking care of the kids" Three men were standing side-by-side using the urinal.

The first man finished, zipped up and started washing and literally scrubbing his hands ... clear up to his elbows ... He used about 20 paper towels before he finished. He turned to the other two men and commented: "I graduated from Harvard and they taught us to be clean."

The second man finished, zipped up and quickly wet the tips of his fingers, grabbed one paper towel and commented: "I graduated from the University of California and they taught us to be environmentally conscious."

The third man zipped up and as he was walking out the door he had a smirk on his face and said: "I don't know about you guys, but where I went to college, they taught us not to piss on our hands."

addendum

by jeffro

There was a fly looking at some food in a river. The fly thought, "If I go down, I can get the food!"

There was a fish looking at the fly. The fish thought, "If the fly goes down to get the food, I can get the fly!"

There was a bear looking at the fish. The bear thought, "If the fly goes down to get the food, and that fish comes up to get the fly, I can get the fish!"

There was a man looking at the bear. The man thought, "If the fly goes down to get the food, the fish comes up to get the fly, and the bear gets the fish, I can shoot the bear!"

There was a mouse looking at the man. The mouse thought, "If the fly goes down to get the food, the fish comes up to get the fly, the bear gets the fish, and the man shoots the bear, I can get the man's sandwich!"

There was a cat looking at the mouse. The cat thought, "If the fly goes down to get the food, the fish comes up to get the fly, the bear gets the fish, the man shoots the bear, and the mouse gets the sandwich, I can get the mouse!"

So the fly goes down to get the food. The fish comes up and gets the fly. The bear swipes his mighty paw and gets the fish. The man shoots the bear. The mouse runs for the man's sandwich. The cat lunges for the mouse, misses, and falls in the river.

What's the moral of the story?

When the fly goes down, the pussy gets wet.

THAT'S ALL FOLKS!!

Thangs I done did wrong...

by Thee Lloyd Gawd

Well what can I say but I'm sorry..remember, yall are my 1st attempt at "human" life. My original plan was just to have the Bear shit in the woods and not bother anythang else......just shit..that BE THE END OF IT !! But somehow flies had to try to eat everybody's shit.....then spread onto all your food..ruining a good picnic and fishing trip. So, if you had a good sandwich...and no mouse, cat, etc....there'd still be that dumbass fly eating the bear shit (or yours), AND THEN getting the shit all over the sandwich. Ever had a shit sandwich ????? And you're still not off the hook yet !!! Remember the cat that fell into the creek ?? Well, the fish wins sometimes...natural order of thangs. The the fish eats the cat...and by the time You finally get to eat the fish..... it taste like pussy !!!!! Like I said...SORRY...wouldnt supposed to turn out like this.
