Lockup - pleasures pave sewers

There isn't a lot of activity lately but I can't sleep so I'm going to drop a few lines on Lockup's album.

I think it's quite good... damn good actually... I like it. I admit I had a bad feeling when I saw the cover, horrible stuff (who the hell popularized those cheapo covers, CoF?)... and the photo in the back: a vivid portrait of decadence (Smirnoff? don't drink that poison man!!!).

Then I gave it a first spin... I din't like how the kick drum sounded: with the fuck triggered out of it, so synthetic even a drum machine sounds more natural. I didn't like Tagtren's vocals: a made up "I'm pissed and I'm evil ha-ha-ha" voice.

After a few more spins I was finally able to ignore the vocals and got accustomed to the kick drum's sound. Great old school death-grind.

"Triple six suck angels"--- a stand-out track with a mindblowing opening riff (try to read the title aloud).
"Dreams sacrificed" --- with a nice Harmony Corruption vibe.
"Tragic Faith" --- these things should be done this way. Keep it simple + give it a couple of cool twists.
"Darkness of ignorance" --- some more verra nice riffos and blastos.
"Salvation thru destruction" --- first class song writing, I love the last part.
"Leech eclipse" --- another favorite (almost spoiled by the lazy/lame vocal patterns) with an excellent "angular-deconstructive" riffo.

Every track in the album is highly enjoyable. It's not a masterpiece of startling originality that will change the history of mankind (and it doesn't pretend to be so). It's one of those well crafted albums that you have an urge to crank periodically (a perfect listen while you do the paperwork for your taxes).
