napalm death are NOT death metal!

by

greetings everyone! just wanted 2 say that it's old, me sat here defending n.d. against people who misunderstand their music & wanna lump them in w/ deicide, etc. napalm are a band i would liken much more to sonic youth than any heavy metal bullshit. just because they have long hair... i think they're probably THE most misunderstood group EVER!

Thought that was settled

by

Who cares really, I like ND and I think they're metal, but if they're not I like them anyway. Also, you shouldn't dismiss metal as bull, since metal is an important part of ND and you'd be ignorant to deny that. I also think they're misunderstood but mainly because of the band's name, people think the lyrics are about killing and stuff.

Napalm Death aren't heavy metal, man. People are just fucking short-sighted, and too quick to compartmentalise music. Let it be what it is. I think Jason Thornberry is completely right!

I dunno..

by

I'm not a big fan of labelling but if someone's never heard Napalm and asks me what they sound like I can sum it up fairly quickly by saying 'death metal' just because that's synonomous with gutteral vocals, immense distortion, and heavy bass. Usually that ends the conversation but if they like death metal or might be giving it a chance, yea, I'll elaborate on the band because, as all of us fans know, Napalm are quite a bit different from the rest of the bands out there.

If someone really wants to know..you put in a CD and see if it clicks with them!

I don't think it's really important to try and categorize bands...you either like a band or you don't. The rest is irrelavent except when you go shopping for CDs..in which case Napalm Death is usually under Rock/Popular alongside Barry Manilow, Ted Nugent, NIN and such. ;>

Napalm Death vs. Radiohead

by

My friend owns this tiny little record shop and the day "Amnesiac" (Radiohead) came out there were people shitting themselves to get a copy. Makes me ill to think that they are the new U2 (i.e. self-righteous douchebags) and have become the "spokesmen" for this generation, meanwhile over in Birmingham a much more musically inventive band is struggling to even get their new album ("Enemy of the Music Business") stocked here in California.

Does anybody know?

by

Recently, I've been hearing a lot of good things
about a band called EXIT 13. I've looked around
in the shops, but I have not found anything by them. Does anybody know something about this band?
I've heard it's insane industrial grind. That's
all I know.

So, any info (albumtitles, recordlabel) would be
very much appreciated.

Cheerios!

*EXIT 13*

by

Yeah EXIT 13(RIP) are definatly worthy
they disbaned in 1998 because of conflicting
personalitys. There style is really off the wall spaz/jazz/enviromental hemp grind. They would go from mellow to gonzo blast in the same song.
I really like them. The singer owns Relapse records "BILL YURKUIWIZ" with Steve Odonnel on guitar and Members of Brutal Truth Rich Hoak and Danny Lilker.

they recorded for RELAPSE RECORDS USA

they have several out of print early E.P.'s

but you should be able to order there full lengths
from RELAPSE USA mail order

1. DONT SPARE THE GREEN LOVE (contains 3 7" eps)on cd.
2. ETHOMIS MUSIC full CD
3. A FEW MORE HITS cd
4. SMOKIN SONGS cd

I HIGHLY RECOMEND THEM....you will be chuffed.
But load your bong to the max !!!

EXIT 13 GRINDS with the best of them

Exit 13 will always grind

by

Hell yes, Exit 13 is one of my favs too...so sad that all the good grind bands are slowly disbanding (Brutal Truth).

If you're looking for some overthetop grind tempered with jazzy breaks and some thought provoking lyrics, check them out.

Beware, the smoking songs cd has no actual metal on it...definately listen to it first.

rare ND tunes

by

Does anyone have either the "Rareache" compilation CD or the "Cursed To Tour" promo CD? There are ND songs on them that I do not have and I am trying to obtain. If anyone is interested in selling or trading their copy please e-mail me. Or if someone would be kind enough to lend them to me (I can copy them) we can work out an arrangement. Grind on...

heres a discussion topic..

by kit

Question: Would you rather keep Naplam Death et al real and for the true fans, or would you like to see it in the charts where more people would listen to it. And what would you think if it became fashionable??

Some food for thought..

Hmmmmm.....

by

Well, it would be kinda weird to see Napalm Death in the charts. We know it would never happen. But, imagine it. Barney doing a song together with Celine Dion!

I think Napalm Death should keep on doing what they've been doing for the last 18 (or something) years. If more and more people would get hooked on the grind, hey.... no problem! It would be a problem if Napalm Death would tune up their sound to appeal to a larger odience. THAT would be a problem! But I know they'll never do it.

About the fashionable thing, grindcore is not a really fashionable music. It has no cool samples of breakbeats, or a singer with a mask on. What you see is what you get, that's Napalm Death!
I do know, that if Napalm Death would become the
"new" thing, and all the spookycore fans would turn their attention to grind, I'll still listen to it. Follow my own path, and if that same path is tred upon by thousands of trendy people with SlipKnot shirts on that's no problem for me.

So that's all I have to say about this. Let's hear what the rest thinks.

Cheerio!!

This isn't gonna work

by

If ND were to change their sound, ND wouldn't be ND, I mean, they're called Napalm Death, the essence of their music is truth, there is simply no room for compromise.

I must admit that if people were suddenly attracted by black, death and grind, I'm unsure of how I would react and the influence it would have on the bands, but I would surely continue listening to metal.

I think..

by Scythefall

I'd never complain if Napalm Death hit the charts and mainstream crowds began taking a listen at the bands we've all been enjoying for well over a decade. Way I see it, it's just more money for the band to tour with and to record new albums with. Album quality is constantly improving with Napalm Death as it is, so that'd just be icing on the cake.

Here in the states, of the people that go to Napalm Death shows, you see a pretty diverse group as it is, but everyone is there to have fun and usually really friendly.

Any thoughts?

What can we do to make this forum more interesting? I know..... a good and healthy discussion. About what? I haven't got the foggiest. So.. any thoughts, ideas, subjects, furry animals or mistakes you'll like to share?

I know it's a bit weak to ask for a discussion. But I've just returned from a long day at work and
I am not really brain-active yet.

By the way, I just listened to Agorophobic Nosebleed's Honky Reduction album, It's killer!!!

2 mistakes

by

I´ve bought the 0:12 revolution in just listening of coalesce, after three auditions I think it´s fine, but I commited one mistake...buying leaders not followers the same day, so I´m condemned to listen it all day, in the evening I came back to the shop and bought words from the exit wound, it was my 2nd mistake, now I listen it in the train, in the bus...
Could I ever concentrate on the coalesce´s auditions?
Will ND make me commit more "mistakes"?
I hope so.
My late but sincere condolences to Joaquim, go ahead friend.

Me, live at the school auditorium!

by

This week, my school held a music contest where bands formed of students who had passed an audition would play in front of the school. The thing is, there are about 5 metalheads in the whole fucking school of nearly 2000 students, so me and and a couple of friends were accepted for the audition and chose to cover Ghoulunatics' Nature Morte (dead nature), I would qualify this song as hardcore with death vocals, not too heavy but still quite fast.

The contest had about 20 songs, a dozen Celine Dion wannabes, 2 punk rock songs (not REAL punk), 2 rap songs, a Bob Marley tune, a guy playing his guitar with a drill, a radiohead cover and other really unmemorable stuff.

And there was us, with our humorous nicknames:
Dieu (god) A.K.A. me: Guitarist and headbanger extraordinaire
Gorestring:2nd guitar
Hammer of death:Drum
Mothertrucker:Bass and backing vocals
Astucieux masqué (clever maskedman or something):vocals

We were the only metal act in years, a couple of us wore masks, we had the singer from radiohead run across the stage masked and brandishing a tree branch, we moved a lot (especially compared to the immobile others).

The thing is on wednesday's evening show we did a killer performance, everything was tight, we put a lot of energy into it and when we're done, most of the crowd starts booing us!Normally I'd be glad
but on our previous performances we got positive response! My question is: why us?Why not that lame choregraphy, why not that loose emotionless punk song? Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and to end this on a positive note, this morning, there was another presentation, when our song was done, the lights went out, I started playing the funeral march (à la A.C.) and BOOM!The lights go back, hammer does a blast beat that would make Pete Sandoval proud, mother and astucieux start growling and screaming (respectively), me and gore beat the shit out of our strings for the ten most brutal seconds of the school's musical history! So this is how our school met grindcore!

music

by Jared

You know why everyone sterting booing, because
people don't know good music now days. But who
I'm to say what other people listen too. I live
in an area where everyone listens to hardcore rap,
if I expect people to respect my music I respect
their music. but fuck, people want to hear about
real shit that goes on everyday, bands like Morbid Angel only talk about ideas on things and
what people's flaws are. My favorite band is
Pantera cause I can relate to Phil's views.
I bet you got dised because everyone know days
don't give a fuck about what they listen to as
long as it's trendy. If you're dissapointed that
everyone didn't like it than fuck them, more than
half of them don't even know what metals about.

could have been worse...imagine they all (pretended) to love it and every 15 year old trendy motherfucker came in with naplam t-shirts the next day, listening to it on their walkman and saying they've digged it from day one.

Now I'd rather be booed off and keep my head held high than become the latest fashion craze...

Unsolved mysterys of mankind

by Ryuto

I still can't figure what the "hidden track" on Leaders not Followers is meant to be.

Who is that guy? Why is he there?
Is it an invitation to learn welsh?
Is it an exercise of surrealism?
Is it there just to make people ask why it is there?

np: Nembrionic - Incomplete (nice thrashy death metal. They dedicate one of their tracks to Napalm Death and another to Terrorizer)
