Chapter 18: More than that
July 14th, 2008
Everyone was bustling around preparing for the rehearsal. Shawn was supposed to be a groomsmen since one of Chasen’s friends became unattainable. The trouble was that he and Belle were starting to grow closer and closer with every moment spent together. Old feelings were being conjured up and Shawn felt less in control of his mind. In fourteen days, his Belle, the girl he was supposed to be with, would be marrying Chasen Vander Holt. Belle Vander Holt. That just sounded wrong. Belle Brady had a much nicer ring to it. Shawn could not complain about Chasen, though. He had really opened up to Shawn in the past few days and contradicted what everyone else had described him as. He seemed to be a really nice guy. The music started and the wedding party started filing in. Shawn escorted Chloe into the church and they took their places at opposite ends of the row. He spied Katie sitting with his mother and smiled at her. He hadn’t spent too much time with her since he arrived, but he made a mental note to himself to sit with her at dinner. Belle walked in with her father and they made it down the aisle.
Belle plastered a fake smile on her lips the whole time. She could have fooled anyone. After that phase of the rehearsal, she hightailed it out of there and went to join her friends at Tuscany. She longed to sit with Shawn, but since her future in-laws were in attendance, she didn’t think that was too good of an idea. Belle began to have serious thoughts of doubt. She had been spending too much time lately with Shawn and she was so scared because she had been feeling such deep feelings for him again. She didn’t want to get hurt, but he was all that she wanted. Belle longed for his love, she wanted it more than ever before.
Everyone was having a great time at the party, when the entertainment potion of the night began. A band played and after, they pulled Shawn up on stage to sing. Hearing everyone’s pleas, Shawn decided to treat everyone to a song that was to be on the next album. Although he did not dedicate the song to the bride and grown, he had a feeling that Belle would know. It was a bit daring of him to sing this song, since it was about a man who felt that he would love a girl more than the man she was with, but Shawn did not care. Picking up a guitar, he began to strum it lightly.
I can see that you’ve been crying
You can’t hide it with a lie
What’s the use in you denying
That what you have is wrong
I heard him promise you forever
But forevers come and go
Baby he would say whatever
It takes to keep you alive
Tell the truth between the lines
Oh I will love you more than that
I won’t say the words, then take them back
Don’t give loneliness a chance
Baby listen to me when I say
I will love you more than that
Baby you deserve much better
What’s the use in holding on
Don’t you see it’s now or never
Cause I just can’t be friends
Baby knowing in the end
There’s not a day that passes by
I don’t wonder why we haven’t tried
It’s not too late to change your mind
So take my hand, don’t say goodbye
I will love you more than that
I won’t say the words and take them back
Oh I will love you more than that
I won’t say the words then take them back
Don’t give loneliness a chance
Baby listen to me when I say
I will love you more than that

Belle’s jaw hung agape. She couldn’t not believe that Shawn had just confessed his feelings by singing that song. She looked around, wondering if anyone noticed. Everyone was cheering and applauding; they didn’t notice. Looking at the stage, her gaze was returned by Shawn, who looked deep into her eyes, searching for any sign at all. Chasen looked at Belle and saw that her eyes were brighter than they had ever been before. By the looks of it, this Shawn Brady guy had just saved him from an unhappy marriage.
