Long Lost Love Come Home Ch. 52
by Lil Italy (no login)
Belle parked her JEEP as close to the center of Salem Place as she could. Belle attempted to walk to Java Cafe without getting sidetracked, but couldn't help it when she saw a store window display that she just had to get a closer look at. And somehow Belle found herself inside the store. "Can I help you?" A nosy store clerk asked when she saw Belle looking through the most expensive clothes in the store.
Belle smiled kindly at the clerk, "Thank you, I would like to purchase this, this, this, and this," Belle said politely, handing the clerk two handfuls of hangers. The clerk glanced at the clothes, all nice conservative clothes. Then the clerk looked Belle over. Her eyebrow raised as she went down the barely there top and low cut jeans.
"Is there a problem?" Belle asked, trying to keep her cool, as the clerk just stood their looking at her.
"Are you sure the you want to buy these, these are very expensive clothes and they don't look quite your style?" she asked somewhat coldly.
"Yes, I am quite sure, and I know the price," Belle confirmed.
"Don't you want to try them on first, make sure that they fit, you might change your mind?" the clerk continued to push.
"No thank you, I know my size, and I am not going to change my mind," Belle continued to assure the rude clerk.
"Very well, I can help you at the register," the clerk said, not even bothering to take the clothes from Belle's hands, she simply turned her back to Belle, and pointed to the two cash registers in the center of the store.
Belle followed the woman to the register, but when they got there, Belle put her clothes down on the counter of another clerk.
The clerk stared at Belle with disgust as Belle handed her clothes one by one to the other, somewhat more friendly clerk.
"That will be $300.00," the clerk said with a friendly smile.
Belle pulled out her VISA, and handed it to the kind woman. The woman read the name printed on the card in her hands, and then looked at Belle. Her mouth hung open a bit as her gaze turned back to the name on the plastic card. "Your Isabella Black?" the woman asked in awe.
"Yes, that's me," Belle said kindly.
"As in the Basic Black Isabella Black?" the woman asked again.
Belle blushed at her recognition, "Yes," she said confidently and glanced at the rude clerk that was still glaring at her.
The kind clerk charged the purchases and handed Belle back the card, "Thank you very much for shopping today Miss Black," she said with a wide smile.
"Your very welcome," Belle said. She picked up her bags and headed to the door, but a cold hand tapped her shoulder, stopping her.
"Miss Black, I am sorry for the way that I acted before, please except my apology," the rude clerk said to Belle as she tried to shrug off her cold face.
"I except your apology, I just hope that you don't treat all your customers the same way," Belle lectured, and she turned and left the store as quickly as she came in, leaving he rude clerk in the dust.
Still on her trek to Java Cafe, Belle tried yet again to make it there without distraction, but this time she was distracted by the store window of Basic Black.
Belle decided to stop in and look around. She wasn't interested in buying anything, she was just curious as to how Basic Black employees treated their customers.
Belle entered the store which was busy as usual with bustling customers and smiling clerks. Once Belle's foot stepped inside the door, she was greeted warmly.
"Good afternoon, welcome to Basic Black, is there anything I can help you with?"
Belle smiled at the polite young lady in front of her, "Um, no thank you I just wanted to check this place out, but thanks for the offer," Belle said, as she moved her eyes around the store, noticing the positive atmosphere. The young clerk smiled and waved as Belle left the store feeling more satisfied with Basic Black than she and earlier that day.
And finally with Java Cafe in sight Belle made it there without any more distractions. She ordered herbal tea, and sat down in a shady spot at the edge of the umbrella covered tables, in the middle of all the people coming and going. Belle looked up and down nearly every person that walked by her, and even got some flirtatious looks in return from a group of high school football players.
Belle noticed one in particular that kept his eyes on her. After a brief powwow with his buddies, a slightly beefy guy came over and sat down in the chair next to Belle. "Hey Baby," the guy said in a husky voice.
"Excuse me?" Belle said critically.
"Girl, I must have died and gone to heaven, cuz I see an angle right in front of me," the guy said with a wink.
Belle smiled at his lame attempt to get her attention.
"I like a girl with a sense of humor," the guy said suavely, "So how about you give me your number, cuz I lost mine," he tried again.
Belle looked at him for a moment, and then noticed his jacket. "You go to Salem High?" Belle asked, she was somewhat curious about this guy.
"Yeah, I'm a senior," the guys said confidently. "I haven't seen you around school, are you new, because if you are, I would be glad to show you around," the guy offered.
"That's ok," Belle assured him, "I have lived in Salem my whole life."
"How come I haven't seen you around school?" the guy asked, still trying to put the moves on Belle.
"Because I have already graduated," Belle explained.
"Oh, I see. So your in college, what year did you graduate?" the guy asked, still flashing Belle his pearly whites.
"Not exactly, I graduated in 2002," Belle explained.
The guy starred at Belle for a moment. "Are you serious? Wow, you look so young," the guys said, obviously shocked by Belle's revelation. "Well, would you still be willing to go out with me?"
"What?" Belle asked, confused beyond belief.
"Well I kind of have a bet going on with my friends, that I could get a date with you, and if I don't come back with your phone number then I have to do something really embarrassing," the guy explained.
"Well, I would go out with you, but my boyfriend might be upset by that...Tell you what," Belle began, "Here is my 'mock phone number', hope you win your bet," Belle said, kissing the guy on the cheeck and handing the guy a piece of paper with a fake phone number written on it.
Belle looked back at the group of guys as they patted the each other on the back and dealt out money, she smiled at the sight, and got back into her JEEP.
