LLLCH Ch. 75

by Lil Italy (no login)

Ch. 75
Belle through on some jeans and a black blouse and grabbed her coat. Belle saw Mimi waiting in front of Java Café and ran to greet her.
“Hey Meems!” Belle gushed as if she was sixteen again. The girls embraced and walked arm in arm into ‘The Jewels of Salem’ the jewelry store located in Salem Place.
“Okay, so we are looking for wedding presents right?” Mimi confirmed.
“Yep,” Belle agreed, “So, what are you thinking about getting for Phillip?”
Mimi paused for a moment, “That is the question of the hour. I don’t know. What do you get for the boy that has everything?” Mimi browsed through the clear glass counter.
“You would think that the birth of his first child would be enough,” Belle teased.
“How about this?” Mimi asked, pointing to a large Tiffany Mark bracelet watch, with self-winding, mechanical movement, in stainless steel, hour, minute and second hands and date window. 21 jewels.
“2,050 dollars. It’s nice,” Belle said, as a counter clerk removed the watched and handed it to Mimi.
“It has a nice weight. It looks ‘Kiriakis style’ to me. Do you think Phillip would like it?” Mimi fastened the watch to her wrist, and admired it.
“Phillip would love anything that you gave him. Oh my god! Isn’t that cute!” Belle gushed, pointing to a platinum barbell rattle, incrusted with small diamonds.
“Can you imagine us in just a few short months. We will be married and mothers!” Mimi exclaimed.
“C’est fou! My dad still hasn’t found any gray hair, and the next thing you know he will be a grandfather. I think I might get him a gift while I am here,” Belle said, asking the clerk to hand her a pair of platinum cuff links.
Belle and Mimi left the jewelry shop with almost more than they could carry. “So how are you doing all alone in the penthouse again?” Mimi asked Belle.
“I miss Shawn desperately!” Belle dramatized. “To tell you the truth, I don’t find Shawn’s dirty clothes on the floor, I don’t have his dirty dishes in the sink, and there is always ice cream in the fridge, but I still miss him like crazy,” Belle admitted.
“Now that’s when you know you’re in love. I go crazy when Phillip is late for dinner. We should like an old married couple the way we argue sometimes,” Mimi joked.
“So where is Phillip tonight?” Belle asked casually.
Mimi’s face seemed to harden. “He just hired a new secretary, and he had to stay late tonight to ‘show her the ropes.’ He said that he would call me when he was leaving the office,” Mimi said, nonchalantly looking at her watch.
Belle and Mimi dropped their numerous bags off in Belle’s car, since Mimi had taken a taxi there. They had planned to go back to the Kiriakis mansion and have dinner there, but both Mimi and Belle were exhausted from their days and just wanted to grab a bit a Salem Place while they were there. They walked past the various restaurants: Chinese, Italian, American, etc. As both girls passed the Italian bistro, Mimi couldn’t help but look in. It was Phillip’s favorite restaurant, and when she wasn’t with him she wanted to be with him, and Mimi clung to the small piece of hope that Phillip would be waiting inside for her.
Mimi was right; Phillip was inside, but not waiting for her. He was inside sharing an intimate table with his new secretary. Mimi had met her. She was young, in her twenties maybe, she had long brown hair, an exotic beauty, Phillip said that she was from some country in South America. Her family had been very wealthy, and she was sent to the United States for boarding school. She had graduated college only a few years back and hoped to work her way up from secretary to boardroom executive, under Phillip’s brilliant supervision of course.
Mimi stopped outside of the restaurant, and Belle noticed her expression. “Are you going to go in?” Belle asked.
“I don’t know,” Mimi said watching Phillip and his secretary intently. They clinked wine glasses, and we both served an Italian pastry. “No, I think we should just go,” Mimi said, walking steadily to Belle’s JEEP.
“Don’t you want to get something to eat?” Belle asked.
“We have a bunch of food back at the mansion,” Mimi said, urging Belle to get in the JEEP.
“Whatever you say,” Belle said.
They drove to the mansion. All the lights were out and the servants and all visibly left. Belle pulled to a stop. “You know what Belle, I am really tired, would you mind terribly if we rain check this whole dinner thing?” Mimi asked.
“No I don’t mind,” Belle said kindly, she hugged Mimi and left her in her big, dark house all alone.
Belle found Mimi’s behavior strange, but thoughts of Mimi’s actions and thoughts left Belle’s mind as soon as she entered the penthouse.
The bellboy had brought a small wrapped package, and there were 3 new messages on Belle’s machine. Belle decided to open the package first. It was from Hope and her mother. They had planned a baby/ wedding shower for Belle, and had sent her the invitation as well as guest list and copy of the latest BRIDE, as if she didn’t always have that on her mind.
Next Belle played the messages. The first one was from her father and mother. Her father had to talk to her about some business and her mother wanted to make sure that she had received the package. The next one was from General such-in-such for Shawn, telling him that he needed to speak with him about reporting dates. The last and final message was from Shawn, he needed to speak to Bell as soon as possible.

~Sorry for the wait, but there is much more to come:
1). Shawn gives Belle some news
2). Belle moves out of the penthouse
3). Mimi and Phillip argue, one leaves
