Ch. 79
Belle waited in the waiting room for the nurse to call her. She wished that Shawn was with her, she always felt so uncomfortable at the doctor’s office, and Shawn had always made sure that she was calm.
Belle decided to step outside, out of the “NO CELL PHONES!” area for a moment and check her voice mail. Three registered. The first one was from Brady. He wanted to invite her over for dinner that night. It was one of the many dinner invitations that she had received while Shawn had been out of town, and Belle was so tired of it all, she just wanted to be by herself for a while. She wasn’t a frail female that couldn’t exist without a man by her side. She was independent way before she and Shawn had gotten together, had they all forgotten that?
Belle erased the message, and made a mental note to call her brother after her appointment and politely decline the offer.
The next message was from Guy Dulac. Belle hadn’t really spoken to him since she left Paris, but he sounded panicked, and he said “He REALLY needed to speak with her.” Belle wondered what the problem was. Everything at Basic Black was going smoothly. They hadn’t planned any shows, and the Paris market was going well. Belle couldn’t imagine what problems Guy would be experiencing.
Belle erased the message, and promised herself that she would call Guy as soon as she was done with her appointment.
The last message was from Hope, letting Belle know that she and Marlena had her shower all planned, and gave her a date, place, and time.
Belle had to smile at this message. It was nice to hear from Hope, and it was nice to expect a casual party in the near future that Belle WOULD NOT be planning.
“Excuse me. Miss Black, the doctor is ready for you,” a nurse directed Belle to an exam room, and gave her the same paper gown that Mimi was given.
Belle quickly changed and awaited the doctor.
Dr. Bader entered the room and quickly examined Belle, knowing how much she detested these visits with out Shawn by her side.
“Well Belle, everything seems to be in order. Your babies are doing very well. But there is something I am concerned about,” Dr. Bader said, looking over Belle’s charts.
“What’s that? I go to all the classes, I take my vitamins, and I am doing yoga to maintain my stress levels. What could be wrong?” Belle suddenly panicked, and wished Shawn was here more than ever.
“Well those yoga classes are doing you good, because your stress level has significantly gone down since your last appointment, but it is still dangerously high. So, what do you think has been causing you stress?” Dr. Bader looked at Belle quizzically.
“Well, I am planning a double wedding, and my soon to be husband has been called back to active duty. Hmm…I really don’t know!” Belle’s voice rose.
“Belle, your children’s lives are significantly important, so you need to either double up on those yoga classes, or find some way to let off some of this stress. It is putting both your children’s lives as well as your own at risk.”
Belle looked away from the doctor. “I’m serious Belle.”
“I understand Dr. Bader. I’ll see what I can do. The wedding is almost here, and our honeymoon will be very relaxing, I promise,” Belle said seriously.
“Speaking of which. When we get closer to your due date, then you will need to…umm…limit your ‘strenuous activity.’ If you know what I mean.”
Belle laughed softly at the doctor’s discreetness. “I understand. Will that interfere with my honeymoon at all?” Belle asked.
“No, it shouldn’t. You should be okay until you get back,” Dr. Bader said, grinning at the soon to be newlywed.
“Alright Ms. Black, good luck with your wedding,” Dr. Bader said, leaving Belle and her two unborn babies.
Belle left the doctors office. She thought of checking in and seeing her mother, but decided against it, she had too much to do, and she had three phone calls to return.
Belle decided to call Guy first. He picked up after the first ring. “Isabella? What do I owe to this unexpected phone call?” Guy was suave and charming, and every time Belle spent time with him she was a little taken back by him. She always felt that he had a crush on her or something, but Belle never had any intention of mixing business with pleasure, nor did she have the time. Besides, Guy seemed like a player in his own right.
“You left me a message, and said that you ‘really needed to speak with me.’ What’s going on?” Belle was annoyed that he might have worried her about nothing.
“Oh, I’m so sorry Isabella. Pierre, Jacques, and I figured it out. I forgot to leave you a new message letting you know that everything was fine,” he said in English with a heavy French accent.
“It’s ok. What was the problem?” Belle was going to speak to him in French, but her brain felt frozen, and the words would not form at her lips.
“Well, I don’t know if you father has told you or not, but I am moving to America for the next two years, and I gave Jacques and Pierre promotions, and your father and I were arranging their contracts. I thought you were in on it, so when I had a question on the contract I called you. But later I reached your father, and he told me that you hadn’t been informed yet,” he sighed. “I’m sorry to have worried you over such a little thing, but you understand that I cannot leave Paris when it is in a state of confusion!”
“It’s alright. I hadn’t heard about you move. When will you be arriving?” Belle was grateful to her father for bringing in more help, she would be out for a significant amount of time, and Brady would be as well. John doing all the work was not a comforting thought for Belle. He was healthy and fit, but still Belle worried about her father.
“I will arrive a few days before your wedding. Your father invited me, I hope you don’t mind,” Guy said timidly.
“No of course I don’t mind. Guy you are one of my dearest friends, I would be honored if you attended my wedding!” Belle was surprised that she hadn’t already invited him. But with all that was running through her mind, she didn’t have time to chastise herself because of one invitation that wasn’t thought of.
Belle hung up with Guy a few minutes later, and called Brady.
He wasn’t in his office, so Belle tried the loft. Chloe answered, she and Belle talked amicably for a few moments, and Chloe mentioned the dinner invitation.
“Oh Chloe, I don’t want to bother you guys. You only have a few short months until your due date, and I would just be the third wheel. Really it’s all right. I wouldn’t mind a night by myself. Shawn will be home in a day,” Belle told her sister-in-law.
“Oh Belle, come on! You know that we love you, and you would never be the third wheel. At least come for a bit of dinner. Brady has been wanting to see you. He says that with all this wedding planning, you hardly ever have time for him anymore. And you and I haven’t gotten any time together in ages,” Chloe pressured, trying to convince Belle that it was a good idea to come over for dinner.
“Chloe I have so much to plan still,” Belle protested.
“Well let me help. I am by the way the maid of honor, and I have hardly done anything. Bring over all you have left to do and I will help with whatever I can.”
That offer was just a bit to tempting for Belle to resist. “Alright. You’ve convinced me. What time should I come over?”
“About seven.”
And it was all set. Belle wanted a night desperately to herself, but getting some major things from the wedding out of the way would help her relax a bit, and reduce her stress levels, and that was what was important. |
