Creating maps/levels...

by

To create maps/levels you'll first need to download either JED or JKEdit (I'd recommend JED because its capabilities are superior and it's easier to find documentation). You'll then want to read the Basics. After you've read those, you'll want to continue on with the Tutorials. By this time you should have a well-rounded view of editing. If you run into any problems you'll want to ask for help on the Main Editing Forum. If you run into problems with COG script, you'll want to seek help on the Cog Forum. If you just want to showcase a project or view projects from other editors, you'll want to visit the Showcase Forum. May the Force be with you.

The JKMAG member list has been down for around 2 years. JKMAG is here for historical purposes only these days. A few people have attempted to resurrect this once great site, including myself, but it appears that it's not meant to be. If you're looking for a JK/MotS community, try http://www.zone.com, http://www.gamespyarcade.com, or http://www.qtracker.com. May the Force be with you.

They probably died out and disbanded like 90% of the other editing teams for Jedi Knight. If you're interested in playing a Paintball Mod for Jedi Knight, head over to http://www.massassi.net and do a search in the Levels/Mods section for "Paintball." There are numerous Paintball Mods (not certain if any of them is the one you're looking for).

If you'll skim through the tutorials at http://www.massassi.net you'll see various how-to's regarding skinning and texturing. If you're wanting to get into making new models you will want to read up on the 3do and modeling tutorials. If you're just wanting to make new skins, you'll want to read up on the texture creation and skinning tutorials.

Jedi Knight Classic

by

I'm putting together a Dark Forces: Jedi Knight IP board featured at a new site that I'm calling "Jedi Knight Classic". I can't stand another minute of people in the Zone so I'm putting this together. The whole purpose is for those that simply want to have a good game without someone who is annoying and hacks. I call it a get away. It'll be the place for those that have a higher level of maturity. Hopefully, I'll find a place where it can be hosted soon. In the future, if the site gets visitors I'll expand it to have articles, and maybe some tournaments.

Nope, not many people at all. As a matter of fact, I'd say that only 1-2 others beside myself do. I believe that you messaged me on mIRC today, so yes, it's me. I don't believe I'm currently on the JKMAG staff, they changed the password on me awhile back and I haven't heard much from anyone since. I may still be a forum moderator, but I guess I won't find that out until someone does something to make me try and log on. Ah well, maybe I'll try to contact Chyren again and see why I haven't been given a password again and try to get this site going again. Someone awhile back mentioned making a new design, but I guess they changed their mind.

Message me anytime on irc.gamesnet.com if you're looking for a game, or just to chat.

Qtracker: Released!

by

Qtracker v.3.31 has been released, and once again supports Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith. The jediBoard, which used to work hand in hand with Qtracker, has been down for quite some time, but Ron Mercer (the mastermind behind Qtracker) has figured out a way to bypass the jediBoard altogether, using his new QtUplink technology. Qtracker is now the quickest way to host public Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith servers, and it doesn't stop there. You can also host on both Qtracker and Gamespy Arcade or the Zone at the same time.

Check out the Qtracker homepage here: http://www.qtracker.com

Download Qtracker v.3.31 here: http://www.qtracker.com/downloads/Qtracker331.exe

Read up on how to post servers using QtUplink here: http://www.qtracker.com/master-usage-jk.shtml

I don't find it difficult to believe that you're having problems with the Zone software, it's been known to be quite buggy, and for the past week, the Nar Shaddaa server has been acting up (lagging), causing almost 100 people to have to relocate to the Cantina room.

I'm glad that you were able to find an alternative. Gamespy Arcade is one of the better alternatives. It seems that you've been misinformed though. Gamespy Arcade is free to use but you will be hit with advertisements after certain commands that you give the program (example: leaving a game room). You only have to pay $20 if you wish to register the program. Most people do not register Gamespy Arcade.

If you're looking for another alternative for playing Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith, you may want to check out Qtracker. Qtracker is a server location program that will start supporting Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith again, starting today sometime.

Remember, the current version of Qtracker does not support JK/MotS, but a version that does supports JK/MotS will be released today, at the latest, according the the creator (Ron Mercer).

Update: Qtracker

by

<html> As alot of you already know, the jediBoard has been down for quite some time now. What you may also know is that when the jediBoard isn't functioning properly, neither is Qtracker. They both work hand in hand. If you post a server using Qtracker, it posts the information on the jediBoard for you. If you post the information on the jediBoard, Qtracker pings those servers for you.

I'm a long time user of jediBoard and Qtracker and have been wanting to get some games going on there for quite some time, but I've been forced to play on Gamespy Arcade and the Zone in the meantime. I left a few messages on the jediknight.net forums but no one seemed interested in responding, so I took it upon myself to e-mail the mastermind behind Qtracker (Ron Mercer) and this is what he had to say...

Ah, thanks for sticking with me for so long. Dan and I keep in touch quite often and he's been aware of the issue for awhile now and hasn't resolved it. He intends to, but he's busy.

I just released a program called QtUplink which we could use instead of the jediBoard. It would need to be modified to work with JK and MotS, but it could easily be done. Actually, I put this on my to-do list last week. I had planned on releasing a new version after I got Neverwinter Nights so I can confirm my support works with the retail version which just hit the stores.

QtUplink is easy to install and use. You just launch it, pick the type of server you plan to run, specify your geographic region, minimize it and forget about it. As long as QtUplink is running, whenever it detects you've got a server running it will automatically post it to the Qtracker Masters so Qtracker users will see it. Best of all, it only posts active servers, unlike jediBoard.

Anyways, I think that's probably the best solution since I wrote the program and can control it. I'll update it and get a new QtUplink out this weekend.

I find this to be very exciting news and I have hopes that the jediBoard/Qtracker community will live once again!

Kyle has no lightsaber

by

Level 14 of MotS. At the end of the level you (Mara Jade) have an encounter with Kyle in the heart of the Sith temple. Unfortunately, Kyle has no lightsaber, while he should have one. He holds somthing, but he hasn't got a blade. So Kyle can only hurt me using destructive force powers.

No problem , if it wasn't that I can't hurt Kyle with lightsaber swings either. I can see sparks coming of him blocking my moves. But then I clearly saw I hit him in the back (no defense). You can't hear Kyle scream either indicating he has taken a hit. After 20 minutes of trying to hit Kyle, I gave up.

So basically I'm stuck in the level because I can't kill Kyle and he can't kill me. This all due to the lightsaber not visible - bug. How can I finish the level, even better, fix the bug?

Thanks.

Spoiler Inside

by

I have no idea why Kyle would not have a Lightsaber, he's definitely suppose to. It may be some type of conflict with something that you've installed in your Jedi Knight directory, such as new saber skins or cogs.

***************SPOILER BELOW***************

To defeat Kyle, you simply don't fight him, if I remember correctly. Try it out and see what happens. It's been awhile, but I think if you don't touch him at all, you will beat the game.

The Clonewars Mod

by

I'm looking for serious editors that would like to be part of a mod making team for JK, MotS and JKII. The concept is called "The Clonewars," putting Jedi against Mandalorian Supercommandos. We'd basically like to make something like ManoWarsIII plus SBX with new skins, models, animations and weapons including Mandalorian favorites like knee darts, wrist mounted blasters and a wrist mounted flame thrower. If your interested in helping out please e-mail me. This mod would go along with an ongoing tournament called "The Clonewars" located at http://theclonewars.cjb.net. Since you guys are already famous for the ManoWars mods I was wondering what you thought and if possible you help in creating the mod.

Answer

There are a few ways to install patches/mods for Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith, but the most common way is by using a program known as Patch Commander. It is available at http://www.jediknight.net/commander. Give the readme a once over and you shouldn't have any problems, it's quite easy to use. If you have further trouble, come back and ask for help. Good luck, and make sure you try Manowar 2 and 3.

by Aes Sedai

Interesting. How are you "starting" BFP? Do you mean when you activate BFP2X through Patch Commander and use the "Quick Launch" feature or are you mean that you're using the old BFP2 and 2.1 installers? What exactly do you mean that it launches the Quake engine? Are you saying that you're launching something that is dealing with Jedi Knight and Quake is launching? Be more specific if you want help.

Quick update on the JKMAG relaunch....

by

Hey guys,

I've just about finished the redesign for JKMAG, I estimate that it should be ready to roll sometime next week. I still have not been given FTP access yet (I think Kurgan and the guys want to see the finished goods first) so even thouhg it will be done next week, I'll have to wait for Kurgan to upload the revamped site.

Keep the faith though! A newer fresher JKMAG is coming!

CHEERS!

Zeusy... READ THIS

by

Listen man, I don't have access to my kurgan@jediknightii.net account, only kurgan@iastate.edu. As a result, I probably can't accept huge files.

So best thing you can do is contact one of the other staffers (namely ChrisC3po, ZeroXcape who seems to know you, and Aristotle). If you email me at kurgan@iastate.edu with access to your own FTP where you have uploaded the finished product, I could access it, but I am moving out of this residence on May 11th.

I will then be taking off for 2 weeks to the Appalachian mountains (no computer out there, heh). When I get back I'll be getting a new ISP setup, etc so things will be hectic, needless to say, so you can't count on me to update it. So try Zero... good luck, and thanks!

PS:

My ISP (MSN, go figure) cut off our service early (bastards) so I have no access to ICQ either, and I only check my email and the forums once a day (if that).

2 weeks after may 11th, hopefully things will be back to normal though. ; p

It would be sad to see this forum go, but if they were going to use a new forum, I would recommend that they just get a LucasForum, I'm sure they would be able. This would not only help to attract people from all over the Star Wars universe, but it would be easier for those of you that already use the LucasForums, without having to leave them to come here. Like I said though, it would be sad to see this forum gone, we've been using it for so many years.

As far as I know, it didn't conflict with any mods out there though.

I wish MOTS was patched (heck, they released an Outlaws patch recently, and that game is from 1996!), as it has a few bugs that weren't in JK that are annoying. ; p

Try this:

by Kurgan

Get the LATEST stable drivers for your video card, and in JK, uncheck the box "backbuffer in system memory" in the video/setup menu. If that doesn't work, try it with the box checked.

If it still doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall the game and restart. Then try it... should work.

by Greenberg

I think i said it all.
first of all why do the blaster bolts have to be so slow, its like im playing paintball or something. I have to lead the enemy tons just to maybe get lucky and hit him once. Even with the stupd sniper rifle its so hard to hit someone.
second the multiplayer sucks! when were in Nar Shadda everyone keeps falling into nothingness so noneone can win. miltiplayer is no fun at all, basicaly you just shoot alot and hope you hit someone, great lots of fun!

Sure, why not?

by Kurgan

If you meant for JK2:

Get a bunch of quality skins put together and send them to me (send a url with a site where I can download them and with screenshots and author info, etc in the form of readmes) and we'll see about contacting them for permission to include in the pack.

In addition, if people know how to add new sabers without replacing old ones, we'll add those too.

Currently, there aren't that many decent skins out, since most of the skins were made before the editing tools were released. As a result, making a BFP3 right now would end up being a mediocre collection of simplistic stuff (no offense, but I know those editors didn't have much to work with in the early days).

If you meant for JK/MotS, I dunno. I kind of stopped following the skins scene after I finished BFP2X. Somebody is welcome to port BFP2X to MotS, I really don't have time now.

What quality skins have been released since BFP2X that deserve being in a pack? Al MacDonald released a few new ones, but he put them in his own pack, and other than that I've only seen a few Episode 2 based skins (again, before the movie is even out and people have good material to work with).

email me at kurgan@iastate.edu

Keep in mind, JKMAG doesn't take requests and make mods, we just package them together. ; )

Weekly progress report on JKMAG Site redesign...

by

Slowly but surely is the phrase of the hour it seems. I have managed to get the skeletal structure of the new site completed. Now all that rmeains is the addition of content and some heavy testing. I'm still moving into my new home and all of my weekend free time has so far been spent on that projetc. But I've been trying to spend at least 2 hours a night on the new site, so it will be finished, just not for another 2-3 weeks. A Big hello to all!

by

Zeusy and all the gang,

I'm off tonight to get JK2 at my local EB and hope that it's as good as JK was, alot of found memories with that old game and my "editing" mod days. Manowar 4? I've seen several post asking about this as well as several email's asking for another Manowar, but as of now no real plans are in the works for a new Manowar.

To begin with I'd have to learn alot more code to begin another project and would'nt want to end up doing most of the editing by myself as I did with the last Manowar 3. I'll at least consider it or perhaps maybe I'd like to oversee a new Manowar as project leader if the right talent approaches me on this matter it might happen. Oh, by the way my old DutchAzlon@msn.com is no more,I closed that account earlier this month. Below is my new email and Zeusy if you could place my new email address on any Manowar mod page I'd appreciate that alot thanks!

The JKMAG relaunch is progressing smoothly...

by

Hi Gang,

I'm going to try and post updates on the status of the JKMAG relaunch here at least once or twice a week so everyone will know where we stand. Kurgan is in the process of getting all the old JKMAG site files sent over to me so that I can pick through and decide what content we will keep. We've pretty much decided that even though the new site will be JK2 themed, all the old JK Mods and files will stay and be available for download in a "Classic JK" section. Also We've locked in a new color scheme for the site and I am in the process of building the graphics. We are shooting for the relaunch to occur sometime towards the end of April, so be patient and hopefully we can get this place cleaned up a bit.

If you have a hosted site here or do any sort of posting here YOU NEED TO TOUCH BASE WITH ME ASAP! I have no intentions of shafting anybody's work here, but if you don't contact me soon there is a good chance that you won't get an opportunity have some input about the redesign until AFTER the new site launches.

I WILL BE ATTEMPTING TO CONTACT THE PEOPLE LISTED AS CURRENT JKMAG STAFF AND MANAGERS OF HOSTED SITES WHO HAVE AN EMAIL LINKS POSTED HERE.

Holy Crap, I thought you guys had shut this place down!

by

Man I don't believe it! I came by here about a month or so ago and couldn't find any trace of this place, I must have just missed the link! I don't know if any of you even remember me but I used to post the news here! I've been without an ISP for about 6 months while my wife and I finised up college and I was just cruising around a few of the old haunts and I find this place still up & running! Amazing! I'll try to talk to Kurgan or whoever runs this plce now and see if maybe he/she'll let me give this place a nice revamp, it looks to be long overdue!

Anyone intersted in assisting me or just wanting to look me up after all this time can message me on ICQ using this number: 129245665

Hope to hear from you guys soon!

Agreed

by Kenobi~JD

Yes, this place is due for a bit of an overhaul. This is ReAcToR's turf now pretty much. Jediknight.net was down for some time recently which may explain why you couldn't find us, however now that it's back up I do know there are a few things in the works, but I'm not at liberty to say much else.

Just like Beggar's Canyon

by

Wow! I was doing the same thing today Zeusy..clearing out the old bookmarks. And lo and behold!
JKMAG lives!
I recently played thru JK again to curb my longing for JK2. Played my first MP game in years and it's still a blast! Now to d/l BFP again...

I know you admin-types aren't saying much about the future of JKMAG, but can you confirm your coverage/support/whatever for JK2? It'd be great to find some of my old JKMAG buddies in this new game!

Worth playing? :D

by

Hey there,

I'm a Soldier of Fortune player and since Raven is almost done with JK2 I thought maybe I'd play that too... and that's when I read that you can also play at JK1 on the NET

So what would I need to try a game of JK1 on the Net guys? Which version do you use, etc? I'm sure I could find the game quite cheap now.

And what is it like? What I love in SoF is the CTF mode... do you have that? other modes?

Well I'll look for more infos on my own but could you tell me at least howmany players there usually are online on JK1? I know SoF is a small community but it's still great fun and there still are some talent left.

Hope to read you soon,
Regards -

Tsyrak

Welcome!

by

Yeah, you should play it online, it rocks.

I'd recommend GameSpyArcade though first for games.. or try irc, I forget the name.. like irc.enterthegame or something.

As a last resort, you can go to the MSN Gaming Zone (IMHO it sucks, but there's always lots of players there).

I suggest getting the following:

www.jediknight.net/commander/ (patch commander, to run patches)

www.jediknight.net/kicker/ (kicker helper, to help stop cheaters, many of which hang out on the zone unfortunately)

rbots.massassi.net (bots mod.. has bugs, but pretty cool nonetheless)

www.jediknight.net/jkmag/bfp2x/ (BFP2X, from this site! Great skinpack)

Also check out Massassi.net for levels and mods, www.jediknight.net for great resources like Trail's Guide (single player) and Hiss's Rebel Strategy Station (Multiplayer). Admiral's Command Chamber linked from that site has a ton of great SP mods too.

The IP boards at JK.net are currently down unfortunately (same deal with Qtracker since it ties into our IP boards) so that's not an option right now.

Yeah, JK1 is a great game... not as advanced in the graphics department as SOF, but there's definately lots of variety with the force powers and saber to add to gameplay.

Welcome to the JK community!

Teleport?

by

Hello all,

I could use a few pointers..... I have tried to get teleport to work in the Jedi game as well....but teleport never works for me. I see that you have gotten the teleport to work in MOTS, I could use a few pointers as to getting it to work in Jedi Knight.... Any assistance would be helpful

Teleport?

by Kurgan

There is no "teleport" feature in JK, unless you are referring to the cheat. If so, refer to gamefaqs.com for the proper code. If you are talking about a mod, I suggest you try to contact the person who made it (see the readme file for the mod).

Manowar 2 problem

by

Hi, I've got a problem with Manowar2. I can use the skin file ok, but the weapons just don't work, I put them both in the patch commander and activated them, but when I loaded it all up, and started playing, I had no weapons, not even fists. Can someone tell me how to fix this problem? or how they got it all working?

This place still alive?

by Havoc

It just occured to me that I haven't been here since JK was still at it's heights, and everybody was rushing out to get newly released BFP2.

I was just a little curious: Is this place still alive? How are things?

I'm surprised you use a forum that lets you type in any name you want, I almost guarantee that some lamer will take advantage of that, but then again if I recall correctly, you JKMag Folk were probably the least hostile branch of the JK editing community.

Well, that's about all I have,

yeah, I've been busy too...

by Kurgan

JKMAG just hasn't been busy much, though people still use the forums, and still download the files.

People are getting excited about JK2 though, and coming back here to check out the Old School stuff, which is great. ; )

Yeah, this forum has it's weaknesses, but the webmaster(s) chose this for its simplicity I believe, over UBB...
