1995 regal problem

Just developed a problem with my 95 regal (3.8)
when the engine is started the oil low level warning light stays on after the motor is running.
I can then turn off the engine and restart and the warning light will
stay off until the next time the car is sitting for awhile. The oil level is up to par as well as clean filter, etc. Anyone have any suggestions ?
