I'm trying to get Captive working and get as far as loading the game. As soon as I save the game it locks up and I have to close Winuae.

With some games, the save game feature requires write access to the main game disk (e.g. Eye Of The Beholder I) or for you to swap out the game disk for a blank disk (e.g. Lords Of Chaos after using the special Chaos Format option). The F12 key can be used for the properties if you go to Hardware, Disk Drives and change the ADF disk images this way.
I'm not familiar with Captive, Jerry, even though it was me who sent you the ADF but if neither of those options above work, there's always the Save State option under Host, Misc which has helped me out considerably with some games (e.g. Legacy Of Sorasil) that have/had dubious saving procedures, or even if you want to "save" your game before a particularly tricky bit.
