What shows or doesen't show cycles with the cultural styles of various geographicaly divided parts of the world often ethnicly defined. If you study clothing fashion through history there were many interesting and wierd things that became popular for periods of time like white powdered wigs and ruffle shirts for men 200 years ago.
There was a period when the popular high fashion thing for men in europe was to wear a cod piece. This was, as you have already imagined, a built out attachment that was connected to the groin area of their very tight trousers that came to a point and stuck out 4" to 6". Wheather you had bulge or not with this thing on you looked like you had a hoarse's dick under there.
Also the torriodor fashion (bull fighters) in Spain reflects a period when most men of that culture wore skin tight trousers that showed what ever they had all the time.
People durring these periods seemed to be very comfortable showing their natural physique and I don't think many took it wrong. Most of those who want everything hidden are those with religious values who havent learned how to deal with the desires they feel are stimulated when the see anything physically suggestive. Instead learning to bring their desires into spiritual submission they seek to hide everything that might stimulate them. This is why durring one period they painted over Michael Angelow's naked children on the ceiling of the Cistine Chapel in Rome. Thankfuly the have been restored to their origional beauty.
I think the human body, in every form, is a thing of great beauty that God has given us to be celibrated. It is not something to be hidden. It is something to be enjoyed as part of God's creation. If seeing it brings up things with in us that that we feel are wrong those things should be brought to God and overcome with God's help not repressed under layers of clothing. Every time a culture has sought to repress rether than to seek spiritual freedom they have follen, as a culture, into darkness. The act of repression is to seperate your self from honesty before God.
Sorry for getting so spiritual but I guess it's how I feel.
