No Nate, movies and TV shows are not real life. Actors wear whatever the director wants them to wear. There may be several factors that figure into this- including product placement fees. TV/movie companies make money by having actors wear a certain brand of underwear as a form of advertising. Also, a director knows that media is more careful than ever about not offending anyone in their audience so they avoid anything that anyone might find objectionable (like bare butts). In short- having a actor wear UW is just a easy way to avoid any hassle.
