I'm not "losing" 400 RPM...

Response to Re: A 240EFI troubleshooting saga...

The engine's max is 6000 +/- 100 RPM. The Mercury rev limiter kicks in at 7000, while the CDI unit kicks in at 6600. Both are above the engine's rated maximum, so I'm not losing anything.

This powerhead may be able to go higher in other applications, but I want this (out of production) engine to last a LONG, LONG time. So I'm not going to run it outside of its rated specs. The service manual says to set the max RPM's at 6000 +/- 100 and that's right where WOT takes me today. The only way I'm going to exceed that is if I hit a bump at WOT and disengage the intake. That might enable the engine to overrev, which is why I'm even bothering to replace the rev limiter at all.

Yes, I'm RLHartman on JetBoating.net.

Thanks!
