Replacing impeller

Lots of info on Seadoo bikes online, but not a lot of info on the Speedster. I'm ready 2 buy and install a new Solas impeller, but things are a litle fuzzy on which impeller tool to buy. It also seems that when I had my nozzle assembly off to change the lube, it looked like there was a big nut on the driveshaft that had to be dealt with before I removed the impeller. Do I need a special socket, or am I mistaken on that? I'm just lining things up before I schedule a weekend to tackle the project...I'm relying on my memory from this spring when I changed the lube. Any body know what I need for sure?
Thanks, Doug

Good Luck! I don't believe Solas has a version of impeller which will fit the Mercury M2 240EFI Jet Pump. They worked on it for years. To my knowledge there is not one which improves the performance of the standard impeller.

What doo you think you'll gain by installing an aftermarket impeller?

Not excited about aftermarket(mc-cd 22/39 shows as Solas replacement)...I just have a nicked-up impeller on the boat, and want it back in top shape.

Special tools...

There is a special, extra-deep socket that Mercury sells for removing the impeller nut. As I recall it's about $75. Some people have made their own by welding a couple of sockets together but I don't have any info on that.

There is no "nut" on the impeller shaft, but there are two flat spots accessible by removing the intake grate. You'll need to secure the impeller shaft from rotating. Mercury sells a special tool for that too, but most people just use a long open end wrench of the proper size.

Report back!
