Seriously... our 2001 SpeedSter looks better than it did when we bought her! Let the Doo Gods shine down on me this season, Amen
It is amazing what you find while waxing... a few minor spider marks, misc gelcoat scratches and an interesting 1/16th of an inch deep scratch over a foot long in the jetpump bottom plate. Looking at it from the side, it is not very noticable, but when your directly beneath it... WOW. One more inch to the Port side and it would have curtains for our 6 tine aluminum grate. The scratch does transverse through one of the screws that secures the bottom hausing of the jetpump. I wonder if that screw is locked in place?
Thinking back, I remember a day when we left the boat ramp on the Fox River and as we Slow-No-JetWilded toward the lake... we turned slightly off course because of the strong currents and we hit something hard from beneath. I did inspect the hull for any damage, but didn't see anything. We must have high sided the jet on a large rock in order to cut that scratch into the jetpump. Nevertheless, no structural damage was done and it now is just a reminder to stay in the center of the channel and keep the power ON to remain on track. Incidentally, we were still inside the bouys. I remember that spot and each time we see people close to that area we watch for their outboards to jump out of the water. I can remember seeing at least two such sightings. It looked painful!!!
As a rule... get to know your surroundings and never rely solely on the bouys alone.
