I was so happy, when Elvis decided to return to his love of figure skating. But I was quite disappointed in his recent comments too. In my opinion, you cannot define great skating by the quad alone. I'd prefer the best skater win, rather then the one that did the quad win because of that jump. I also disagree (Elvis's words) that the quad seperates the men from the boys.
Plushenko thought he had the Gold around his neck, before he took to the ice. The man could never even perform a decent spin. He's always been quite arrogant for some reason. And removing his medal right away proves that he is a sore loser. Wish he would have just given the medal back to the judges.
Evan deserved to win the Gold. He trained hard and it showed during his programs. So what if he didn't have the quad. He was the total package with his jumps, spins, footwork etc.
Sorry you don't think skating is evolving Elvis. I'd rather the skaters not bother with the quad and hence not injure themselves trying. So many hip injuries out there with all of the required jumps. I think skating continues to evolve each season. Jumps are not the only element that will move the sport forward. Look at the variety of footwork, spins etc that these skaters are doing. I enjoy watching all of the different styles of skaters too. That is what makes skating so unique.
I really wonder why you throwing out all of these negative comments? The yahoo video and article? I gotta tell you Elvis.....you should never compare figure skating to hockey. If you really think that hockey is more entertaining....then maybe you should sell your figure skates and follow the big macho guys around.
