Made a visit to Heartland Cove, Smithville Lake today from 12 to 1 30. Warm and windy - used the south arm of the horseshoe as it provide better protection from the wind. Felt good - had the place to myself and I left after about an hour. Looks like I'm slightly pink tonight - which is about the way I wanted to look - medium rare.
Might get back there Wednesday midday - all this related to near daily trips up US 169 to Gower.
Hi. I moved up here from TX about 8 months ago. I used to live in Austin and go to Hippy Hollow on Lake Travis pretty regularly in the summers. I've been wondering where I can get naked like that around here. I'd appreciate any info you can give me.
Thanks
Welcome to our own version of Cowtown USA. Couple of options for a some outdoor sun - Camp Gaea - a rural camp owned by a new-pagan group and nude-friendly. They've had their own legal battles in recent years but stood their ground and nudity is still permitted and practiced on portions of their grounds. www.campgaes.org -- neat place, low key, low rent and pretty diverse community. They welcome all who come and host groups mens and womens groups throughout the summer.
Lake Edun - Topeka - www.lakeedun.com. Longer haul from KC but a true nudist venue. 10 acre lake on about 100 acres of woody and grassy land -- higher rent - about $25 day use fee. Nudity not only permitted but required. Sandy beach - no facilities. Cool place - see if you can go as a member's guest to try it out.
Heartland Cove - Smithville Lake about 20 miles north of Kansas City and just off of US 169 near Trimble MO. Public land, very low key - just a stretch of lakeshore that's been homesteaded for nude use but has no special sanction or protection. If you go there -you'll usually be alone - but over the course of a summer quite a few do visit the Cove. www.sky.net/~rjw/cove.htm
Show Me Acres -- central Missouri - about 120 miles east of KC. Nice nudist campground. Weekends only - day fee. primitive camping. Great pool and hot tub.
There are a few options - in addition the Heartland club puts on monthly swims and a few other events. Non-landed group of about 30 local nudists. Guests may attend the swims - contact the club via hnclub@juno.com.
Give one or all a try - find which one works best for you - not a nudist mecca but at least there are some options and "you're not alone" there are others around who enjoy all over sun and skinnydipping and hiking and socializing.
Good luck -stay in touch on what you find. There are always other newcomers to the area who stop by this message board and they'll be interested to hear of your experiences.
I am visiting from out of town next week and was wondering how do I find the cove? I saw the directions, Smithville Lake North of KC just off of US169.
I'm sure I can find the lake but how do I know where to go then? Does Heartland Cove have a sign or parking lot? I would prefer not to get arrested on my visit to KC.
Going North of 169 turn Right on county road W, you don't go very far till you come to county road F, turn left, as you're going north thr road makes a curve to the left about halfway thru the curve there is a gravel road to the right, SW King rd, turn there, follow the gravel road, it winds a bit, you come to a sharp left turn to the north, just a litte way past the turn is a gate, it's just a cable strung between two wooden posts, you just park along the road, most people park at corner as there is more space there. from the gate you have to walk, it's about a ten minute walk, head east till you get out of the trees, you'll be at the edge of a field, you can see the lake from there to the north , east, and south, there is sort af a path that goes thru the field it mainly goes east but does cruve a bit the north before heading east again, just head to the east for the lake if it's grown up to much to see the path, there is a path thru the scrub brush between the field and the beach. I hope this helps you find it , I've been up there a couple of times already this year , if the wheather is decent and I have the time I'd like to get up there this weekend.
Your group was refered to me by a friend in Des Moines. He and his wife have lots of good things to say about your group. I'm coming through KC this Friday (May 2) and was thinking about trying out the cove in the afternoon sometime. You know of anyone going out there then?
